Hillary Clinton’s Biggest Win Isn’t That She Won the Debate, It’s That She Won Over Younger Voters
Actual Poll Shows Clinton Trounced Trump, and Earned Respect and Votes of Key DemographicÂ
Monday night Hillary Clinton without question trounced Donald Trump. Even right wing pundits, strategists, and pollsters said so. But PPP polling actually polled over 1000 people immediately after the debate who had watched it, and the results are even better than Clinton could have hoped.
Those voters 51-40 say Clinton won the presidential debate, but diving into the numbers, it’s clear it was an important win among a key demographic Clinton has struggled with.
“Perhaps most important for Clinton is that among young voters, who she has under performed with, 63% think she won the debate to only 24% for Trump,” PPP’s release states.
“47% of voters in that age group said the debate tonight made them more likely to vote for her, to only 10% who say it made them less likely to vote for her. For Trump with that group on the other hand, only 23% said the debate made them more likely to vote for him to 39% who said it made them less likely to.”
So the debate substantially helped Clinton with young voters, and substantially hurt Trump with them.
More good news for Clinton from the poll.
The Democratic nominee won on temperament to be President, 55-38. On the same question, Trump lost, 42-53. She also won over independents on the question, 56-36.
Clinton won on prepared to be President, 52-41.Â
And on whether or not the candidate can be trusted with nuclear weapons, Clinton won 56-35. Trump lost, 42-51.
It was an important win for the former secretary of state.
Even famous Republican pollster Frank Luntz’s focus group Monday night said so.
