Breaking: Feds Charge Ahmad Khan Rahami With Planting Bombs in New York City and New Jersey

Suspected Bomber Charged After Weekend Attacks

Ahmad Khan Rahami, the man believed by law enforcement officials to have planted bombs in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood and in New Jersey, has been formally charged by federal law enforcement officials.

Rahami was charged with “the use of weapons of mass destruction and bombing a place of public use, according to court documents,” The New York Times reports. He has already been charged with the attempted murder of a police officer.

On Saturday night 29 people were wounded and hospitalized after a bomb exploded on 23rd Street and 6th Avenue. Police found another device that had not exploded. One device also exploded on the Jersey Shore.

Rahami was wounded in a shootout with police in Linden, New Jersey, where he was captured.

Two years ago his father told the FBI his son was a terrorist, but later recanted the allegation. The FBI investigated and found no ties to terrorism, and closed the investigation.
