Rahami was charged with “the use of weapons of mass destruction and bombing a place of public use, according to court documents,” The New York Times reports. He has already been charged with the attempted murder of a police officer.
On Saturday night 29 people were wounded and hospitalized after a bomb exploded on 23rd Street and 6th Avenue. Police found another device that had not exploded. One device also exploded on the Jersey Shore.
Rahami was wounded in a shootout with police in Linden, New Jersey, where he was captured.
Two years ago his father told the FBI his son was a terrorist, but later recanted the allegation. The FBI investigated and found no ties to terrorism, and closed the investigation.
