UPDATED: Dallas Police Search for Suspicious Person Near Headquarters

SWAT Team Sweeping Parking Garage; Department Also Received Anonymous Threat

UPDATE: 7:12 p.m. Central time: Dallas police have completed their sweep of the parking garage, and no suspect was found. 

UPDATE, 6:45 p.m Central time.: Police say no shots were fired. Early reports that shots had been fired were based on the sound of an explosive device used to enter a locked fence: 

The department also says the headquarters building itself has not been placed on lockdown. Rather, officers are sweeping a parking garage behind the headquarters where the suspicious person was spotted. 

UPDATE, 6:35 p.m. Central time: Police are focused on a parking garage behind the headquarters building, where employees spotted a suspicious person:

Some outlets, including The Dallas Morning News, are now reporting that no shots have been fired, contrary to initial reports. 

ORIGINAL POST: Shots were fired Saturday evening at Dallas police headquarters, according to reports on Twitter.

A SWAT team was deployed to the building, which had been placed on lockdown in response to an anonymous threat.  

“The Dallas Police Department received an anonymous threat against law enforcement across the city and has taken precautionary measures to heightened security,” the department said in an email statement at 5:53 p.m. Central time.  

The incident comes two days after five Dallas officers were killed and seven injured in a terror attack at the end of a police-brutality protest.
