BREAKING: AG Loretta Lynch Says Clinton Email Investigation Will Be Closed With No Charges
DOJ Follows FBI’s Recommendation, But House Republicans Plan Their Own Investigation
U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch said Wednesday afternoon that the Department of Justice will close its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails without filing criminal charges.
“Late this afternoon, I met with FBI Director James Comey and career prosecutors and agents who conducted the investigation of Secretary Hillary Clinton’s use of a personal email system during her time as Secretary of State,” Lynch said in a statement. “I received and accepted their unanimous recommendation that the thorough, year-long investigation be closed and that no charges be brought against any individuals within the scope of the investigation.”Â

Lynch’s statement came a day after Comey announced the FBI had recommended to prosecutors that no criminal charges be brought, saying its investigation found no evidence that Clinton or her team intended to violate the law.
In response to Comey’s statement, House Republicans have summoned him to testify before a committee Thursday, and they plan to conduct their own investigation.Â
“There are a lot of questions that have to be answered. And so we’re going to be asking those questions,” House Speaker Paul Ryan told reporters, adding that it looked like Clinton had gotten preferential treatment. “We have seen nothing but stonewalling and dishonesty from Secretary Clinton on this issue, and that means there are a lot more questions that need to be answered.”
