Ted Cruz Is a Liar and a Hypocrite

GOP Presidential Candidate Lying Over Transgender People’s Use of Restrooms Hypocritically Admits They’re Not Even the Problem

For weeks Senator Ted Cruz has increasingly been attacking transgender people in his presidential campaign stump speech, and using them as the butt of his “jokes” about Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. He told an Indiana audience last weekend, “even if Donald Trump dresses up as Hillary Clinton, he shouldn’t be using the girl’s restroom,” as if that somehow were funny.

On “Meet the Press” Sunday, Cruz continued his anti-trans assault, thoroughly enabled by his compliant NBC News host, Chuck Todd.

“If you pass a law, as Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump and Barack Obama want, that says any adult man can go into a girl’s restroom if he feels like a woman at that minute…” Cruz said. That’s a lie, and the Texas Tea Party Republican Senator knows it is – or should, since Politifact called him out on it a week ago.

For the record, two-thirds of Cruz’s statements Politifact has scored are some degree of “false”:

But then, after making his false “any adult man” can enter the girl’s restroom claim, he all of a sudden switched gears – admitting, “listen, the real danger is not people who are transgendered. It’s people who are predators.” (He still hasn’t learned to say “transgender.”)

Here’s Cruz on CNN again today, spout thing the same lie – and getting called out on it by Jake Tapper. Cruz lies again, insisting Tapper is wrong:

But both times, Senator Cruz fully admits that transgender people aren’t the problem – cisgender people are the problem. And it’s just like those conservatives who claim that America must ban same-sex marriage, not because there’s any issue with two men or two women who love each other marrying, but because of the “slippery slope” that same-sex marriage would lead to – i.e. incest and polygamy – we must ban marriage equality for the sake of the children.

Ted Cruz wants to take away the rights of people who aren’t causing any problems to protect Americans from the people who are the problem – when there are already plenty of laws that already protect Americans from the people who are the problem: sexual predators.

It’s literally insane.

To prove the point of just how insane and hypocritical Ted Cruz’s position – which is the same shared by many anti-LGBT conservatives, including North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory, flip that logic around and apply it toward guns.

We can’t enact gun control laws because the people who are criminals don’t obey the laws anyway, is the claim Second Amendment activists love to make. Those Second Amendment activists more often than not, by the way, are also anti-LGBT activists.

So, again, we have to make laws banning transgender people from using the restrooms that best correspond to their gender identity so sexual predators won’t use the restrooms they shouldn’t be, even though no transgender person has ever been arrested for molesting anyone in a restroom. And even though there are plenty of existing laws that already ban men from accessing women’s restrooms with the intent of engaging in criminal and nefarious deeds.

Yet, when it comes to gun control, we can’t enact sensible, logical legislation supported by nine out of ten Americans, conservatives – including Ted Cruz – insist, because criminals don’t follow the law and will find a way to get guns anyway.

Conservatives like Ted Cruz insist that government is the problem, then go out of their way to ensure that becomes true.

“Every day,” Cruz promised in his “Meet the Press” interview Sunday, “my focus is going to be on reducing the burdens of Washington on small businesses, bringing manufacturing jobs back to this country, lowering taxes and then defending the Constitution and Bill of Rights.”

How does banning transgender people from using the restroom that makes the most sense based on their gender identity fit into that?

Biden Blasts ‘Extremist’ Supreme Court and Promises to Protect Women Traveling Across State Lines to Obtain an Abortion

Published

on

Calling the U.S. Supreme Court “extremist,” President Joe Biden held a virtual roundtable with nine Democratic governors Friday afternoon to discuss options in the wake of six conservative justices stripping the civil right of abortion from Americans. Biden promised he will protect women traveling across state lines to obtain an abortion and will protect women’s rights to FDA-approved abortion drugs.

The President, fresh off his NATO trip, called the Court overturning Roe v. Wade a “terrible extreme decision in my view, upending lives and impacting on the health and safety of millions of women.”

“I share the public outrage that this extremist court has committed to moving America backwards with fewer rights, less autonomy, and politicians invading the most personal decisions,” he added, echoing remarks he made in Madrid about the Court. The President warned that “if they expand on this decision” it will impact “men as well.”

“As I’ve said last week, this is not over. Last week, I announced two specific actions. First, if extremist governors try to block a woman from traveling from her state that prohibits her from seeking medical help she needs to a state that provides that care the federal government will act to protect her bedrock rights through the Attorney General’s Office. Second, if states try to block a woman from getting medication the FDA has already approved and has been available for more than 20 years, my administration will act and protect that woman’s right to that medication.”

The President warned that “ultimately, Congress is going to have to act to codify Roe into federal law. But as I said yesterday, the filibuster should not stand in the way of us being able to do that. But right now, we don’t have the votes from the Senate to change the filibuster on them at the moment. That means we need two more votes.”

“The choice is clear: either elect federal senators and representatives who will codify Roe or Republicans who will elect the House and Senate will try to ban abortions nationwide. Nationwide. This is going to go one way or the other after November. So let’s remember, the reasoning of this decision has an impact much beyond Roe and to the right to privacy more generally. Justice Thomas himself said that under the reasoning of this decision that the court should reconsider marriage equality and contraception and there’s a lot at stake here.”

‘No Question’: Former Top FBI Official Says Trump World Statements Are ‘An Attempt to Intimidate a Witness’

Published

on

Former FBI assistant director for counterintelligence Frank Figliuzzi says the messages shared by Vice-Chair Liz Cheney during Tuesday’s bombshell hearing of the House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack are “witness tampering.”

“There is no question in my mind that what you just read is an attempt to intimidate a witness. No question about it,” Figliuzzi said on MSNBC Friday afternoon about statements now reportedly sent or said to Cassidy Hutchinson, the former aide and advisor to Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows.

Parts of those statements read: “He wants me to let you know he’s thinking about you,” “As long as you stay on the team and do the right thing, you’ll stay in good graces,” and, “He knows you’re loyal and you’re going to do the right thing.”

Figliuzzi said “there’s little doubt here” that those are examples of witness tampering.

“This is law school first year 101 Criminal Procedure. At the very least, DOJ now has enough to open a witness tampering investigation. We can talk about whether they would win or not, who did it or not, reasonable doubt or not, but there is no question in my mind that what you just read is an attempt to intimidate a witness. No question about it. When you then add that to the fact that it appears that they provided, her initial attorney to her, Cassidy Hutchinson, you now have a without a doubt, predication to open a federal witness tampering investigation.”

The Committee did not reveal who made those statements, but later reporting indicates Hutchinson conveyed both those messages to the Committee, suggesting she was the recipient.

On Thursday Politico reported that “Hutchinson told the committee she was contacted by an intermediary for Mark Meadows, according to a person familiar with her final deposition.” Meadows has since denied the allegation.

Pointing to that Politico article on Twitter, Figliuzzi on Thursday wrote: “This is witness tampering. Cassidy Hutchinson was the target. They picked the wrong young woman.”

Newsmax Host Says Pride Month Makes Heterosexuals ‘Feel Marginalized,’ LGBTQ People Are No Longer ‘Persecuted’

Published

A Newsmax host on Thursday celebrated the end of Pride Month, declaring anti-LGBTQ attacks, marginalization, discrimination, and bullying in the past, claiming Americans were required to display the LGBTQ Pride flag or risk getting “in trouble,” while lamenting the concept of “pride” as exclusionary and “a negative thing.”

“It’s June 30. I gotta say, I’m glad that June is over. The flag, pride, whatever. What was it, Gay Pride Month, right? I mean, it was, it was too much,” said Greg Kelly, a host on the far-right-wing network.

“It was just too much, everywhere. If you had a business, if you had a building, if you had a house, if you had a dog house, you had to put a flag, a gay pride flag up, or else you could be in trouble,” he said falsely.

Kelly then denounced the “relentless programming,” and the “celebration.”

“You see, this has gotten so big, that those of us who happen to be heterosexual feel excluded, feel marginalized,” Kelly insisted.

“Now, I don’t want anybody to feel that way. And I do know that gay people were persecuted unfairly, they could be targeted and canceled. But that’s not America anymore. That’s long ago,” he claimed, literally days after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a civil right to privacy, with one Justice warning specifically that the constitutional right of same-sex couples to engage in intimate contact and to marry should be reviewed and the “error” corrected.

In mid-June Kelly claimed, “this Pride month is borderline out-of-control.”

On Thursday Kelly closed his commentary by saying, “when it comes to gay pride, it’s not the gay part. But frankly, it’s the pride part. Pride is actually a negative thing, isn’t it?”
