Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder: I Will Drink Flint Water for a Month

Under Fire, Embattled GOP Governor Promises to Drink Filtered Flint Water to Prove It’s Safe

Governor Rick Snyder has just promised to drink water from Flint for at least one month, in an effort to alleviate concerns from residents that their water is unsafe. Their water, in fact, at least unfiltered, is unsafe, but in an effort to get people to trust filters, the Michigan governor posted a statement to his website Monday afternoon, and linked to it on social media, including to his verified Twitter account:

“Earlier today, I visited Cheryl – a #‎Flint resident – at her home in the city, and spoke with her about her water use and the use of filters,” Gov. Snyder wrote on Facebook. “I also drank filtered water with her and collected filtered Flint water to personally drink at work and at home. I completely understand why some Flint residents are hesitant to drink the water and I am hopeful I can alleviate some of the skepticism and mistrust by putting words to action.”

Gov. Snyder told MLive, “I’m going to be drinking Flint water for the next 30 days or so.” He will have water from Flint delivered when he is not in the area. He says he’s in the city about once a week.

Reuters also reported the news. As of this writing the governor’s website is not accessible.
