Breaking: South Carolina Senator Introduces Bill He Says Mirrors North Carolina Anti-LGBT Bill HB2
Republican State Senator Has History of Targeting LGBT People
South Carolina State Senator Lee Bright has just introduced a bill he says mirrors North Carolina‘s anti-LGBT bill, known as HB2. The bill actually only mirrors the anti-LGBT portion and does not include the minimum wage and employment discrimination portions.
“Multiple occupancy bathrooms and changing facilities located on public property, including but not limited to property owned by the State, its authorities, commissions, departments, committees or agencies, or any political subdivision of the State, shall be designated for and only used by a person based on his biological sex,” the bill, S. 1203, states.
It also specifically targets transgender students.
“Local school boards shall require every multiple occupancy bathroom or changing facility that is designated for student use to be designated for and used only by students based on their biological sex.”
Sen. Bright displayed his animosity toward the LGBT community and its supporters on the Senate floor Wednesday.
“I’ve about had enough of this,” Bright told his colleagues, WYFF reports. “I mean, years ago we kept talking about tolerance, tolerance and tolerance. And now they want men who claim to be women to be able to go into bathrooms with children. And you got corporations who say this is OK.”Â
Sen. Bright did mention to his colleagues the vast number of corporations that have asked Gov. Pat McCrory to repeal North Carolina’s HB2. Several companies have now pulled over 1000 jobs out of the Tar Heel state. Among them, Paypal, which just canceled a $3.6 million expansion that would have added 400 jobs.
Bright actually said, “PayPal has shown its support for pedophiles by wanting them to go into bathrooms.” He also said, “the silent majority is watching.”
In 2014 Sen. Bright filed a bill that would exempt any employee who works for the State of South Carolina from having to do their job of issuing a marriage license to any same-sex couple. He also called for judges whose rulings support marriage equality to be impeached.
