Breaking: Obama Promises To Submit Nomination To Replace Scalia
Settling Debate, Obama ‘In Due Time’Â Will Nominate A Supreme Court Replacement For Antonin ScaliaÂ
President Barack Obama just announced that he will indeed pick a nominee to replace Justice Antonin Scalia, who passed away earlier today.
As soon as news broke that the Senior Associate Justice had died, conservatives and GOP presidential candidates weighed in, insisting the president’s replacement nominate Scalia’s replacement – even though eleven months remain in Obama’s term.
“Obviously, today is a time to remember Justice Scalia’s legacy,” the President noted, after honoring the late Justice.
“I plan to fulfill my constitutional responsibility to nominate a successor in due time. There will be plenty of time for me to do so and for the Senate to fulfill its responsibility to give that person a full hearing and timely vote.”
Earlier tonight, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders released statements on Scalia’s passing, with Clinton warning Republicans to not “abdicate” responsibility by blocking Obama’s nominee.
