Indicted Creators Of Fake Planned Parenthood Videos Preparing To Turn Themselves In
Two ‘Videographers’ Who Made Falsified Videos Attacking Planned Parenthood Readying For Arrest
David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt are preparing for a trip to Texas, where they will be arrested, processed, and reportedly allowed to post bond. Both California residents on Monday were indicted by a grand jury that had been investigating Planned Parenthood. The grand jury had been convened by Republican District Attorney Devon Anderson, who was first appointed by then-governor Rick Perry, and later elected by the people of Harris County. They found no evidence of wrongdoing by Planned Parenthood but did indict Daleiden and Merritt on one felony count each. Daleiden was also charged with a misdemeanor that is related to purchasing human organs.
Daleiden “plans to plead not guilty to the charges,” the AP reports, according to Daleiden’s attorney Murphy Klasing. Both will have to post bond in order to be released. “Bond for Daleiden and Merritt was set at $11,000 and $10,000, respectively.”
The felony charge involves the use of fake drivers’ licenses. Reuters reports “court papers said the pair unlawfully used a fake government record ‘with the intent to defraud or harm others.’ They face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.”
Klasing says he does not know when the pair will travel to Texas. It is unknown how much time they have to appear.
In a statement responding to the felony indictment, Daleiden claimed his organization, the Center for Medical Progress, “uses the same undercover techniques that investigative journalists have used for decades.” But the AP took exception to that claim.
“Most professional news organizations discourage or explicitly forbid reporters from posing as someone else or otherwise misrepresenting themselves,” the AP stated.
