Breaking: Univ. Of Missouri President Resigns Amid Charges Of Poor Handling Of Campus Racism (Video)
President Tim Wolfe, in a stunning move, just announced he is resigning after students and football players charged him with not properly handling campus racism.
Football players at the University of Missouri demanded the resignation of President Tim Wolfe, after weeks of of racially-charged and racist incidents happening on campus, including the appearance of a swastika painted in feces on a dorm restroom wall. Players and other students had demanded Wolfe’s resignation, charging he had not properly handled the issues.
In another incident that sparked the protests, the president of student government had racial slurs shouted at him.Â
Many members of the football team stood united, stating they would no longer play until Wolfe resigned.
“The athletes of color on the University of Missouri football team truly believe ‘Injustice Anywhere is a threat to Justice Everywhere,'” the players had said in a statement. “We will no longer participate in any football related activities until President Tim Wolfe resigns or is removed due to his negligence toward marginalized students’ experience. WE ARE UNITED!!!!!”
Minutes ago, their demands were met.
“This leadership has undeniably failed us and the students that we represent,” Missouri Students Association President Payton Head had written in a letter. “He has not only enabled a culture of racism since the start of his tenure in 2012, but blatantly ignored and disrespected the concerns of students. The University of Missouri System has heard student pleas behind cosed doors with no effective response. While we recognize that the burden of systematic oppression does not fall entirely on his shoulders, as the leader of this system it is his sole prerogative to listen and respond to students.”
