Watch: Lincoln Chafee Becomes Second Democratic Candidate To Quit Presidential Race
Democrat Lincoln Chafee has dropped out of the race for the White House.
Appearing Friday morning at the Democratic National Committee Women’s Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C., Lincoln Chafee announced he is ending his campaign for the White House.
“As you know I have been campaigning on a platform of Prosperity Through Peace. But after much thought I have decided to end my campaign for president today,” the former Rhode Island governor said.
Chafee, who was a Republican, an Independent, and finally a Democrat failed to gain traction in a race with two heavyweight candidates, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.
Earlier this week Jim Webb announced he was dropping out of the Democratic race, but there is talk he may run as an independent.
And Vice President Joe Biden announced Wednesday he would not be entering the race.
Democrats now have just three candidates: Clinton, Sanders, and Martin O’Malley.
