A Kentucky Clerk Changes His Policy, Will Now Issue Marriage Licenses To Different-Sex Couples
Casey Davis, one of three county clerks in Kentucky who have refused to issue marriage licenses to any couples, is changing his policy.
Kim Davis got all the attention, but she is not the only county clerk in Kentucky flouting the law.
Casey Davis, no relation to the infamous Rowan County clerk, very publicly, and before Kim Davis made headlines, announced he would not issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. He even had a very publicized meeting with the governor, who told him he should do his job or resign.Â
Casey Davis, county clerk for Casey County, refused, and stopped issuing marriage licenses, period, just as Kim Davis did.
“I’m going to fight and die” for the right to not issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, Casey Davis said in August.
But he hasn’t made much news since no same-sex couples have approached him asking for a license.Â
Now, Casey Davis is changing his policy and will begin today issuing marriage licenses – to different-sex couples only, nt to same-sex couples, WKYT reports this morning.
Last month, Davis told WKYT he does not feel same-sex marriage “is a lifestyle that agrees with Biblical principles.” He says same-sex couples have called and emailed asking if he will issue a marriage license to them, but none have walked in the door.
The only other county clerk in Kentucky who is not issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples is Whitley County clerk Kay Schwartz. She told WFPL last week, “don’t stir this, please.â€
