Huckabee Slammed For Racist Tweet During Democratic Debate
Mike Huckabee live-tweeted his reactions during the Democratic debate, including a particularly racist one that he’s defending.
Tuesday night Republican Mike Huckabee unleashed his attacks on his Democratic presidential campaign opponents via Twitter.
There were stupid ones, like this:
They believe climate change is a greater threat than Islamic extremism, that a sunburn is worse than a beheading. It’s nonsense! #DemDebate
— Gov. Mike Huckabee (@GovMikeHuckabee) October 14, 2015
Nonsensical ones, like this:
.@BernieSander‘s socialist math is as solid and sound as El Chapo’s prison security. #DemDebate
— Gov. Mike Huckabee (@GovMikeHuckabee) October 14, 2015
And then a string of racist tweets…
Black lives matter because ALL lives matter. Haven’t we learned from history? #DemDebate
— Gov. Mike Huckabee (@GovMikeHuckabee) October 14, 2015
ALL lives matter. It’s time we stop burning cars, shooting cops, & recognize that life is a gift from God. #DemDebate
— Gov. Mike Huckabee (@GovMikeHuckabee) October 14, 2015
Racism exists because we have a sin problem in America, not a skin problem. #DemDebate
— Gov. Mike Huckabee (@GovMikeHuckabee) October 14, 2015
Yes, Huckabee parrots the GOP party line that “all lives matter” to denigrate and diminish the importance of the Black Lives Matter movement. Then he stereotypes about “burning cars,” and “shooting cops,” a direct link to Ferguson.Â
Huckabee follows up that attack with the “wisdom” of “sin,” which he habitually uses in response to every issue he can’t solve, as he did last week when he said “sin and evil” are the “root cause of violence,” and the Second Amendment is the “last line of defense.”
But it was this racist tweet that literally made headlines:
I trust @BernieSanders with my tax dollars like I trust a North Korean chef with my labrador! #DemDebate
— Gov. Mike Huckabee (@GovMikeHuckabee) October 14, 2015
Raw Story called it “incredibly racist,” explaining his “comment is based on a common slur against Asians, inferring that they would like to eat your pet dog.”
The Huffington Post called it “strangely racist.”
The Daily News labeled it “a tweet casting a racial stereotype of dog-eating Koreans.”
Meanwhile, reaction on Twitter was immediate, including this from yours truly:
Really, @GovMikeHuckabee shouldn’t ever talk about dogs. Not ever: http://t.co/CKEhZlcm6g #DemDebate #p2 #DEM #GOP https://t.co/WWDvGIvYpW
— David Badash (@davidbadash) October 14, 2015
And many others:
@traciglee Was Huckabee thinking about 25th anniv of Jessica Hagedorn’s novel Dogeaters? Nope, that was a racist tweet, plain and simple.

Can you believe Mike Huckabee’s racist tweet? Who does he think he is? The Republican front runner?

This is a presidential statement from Huckabee. #Racist https://t.co/eieVRFG0HJ

Of course, Huckabee then defended his racist tweet, with this:
Poor liberals think it’s racist to deplore a brutal dictatorship. #DemDebate https://t.co/ItkrFfMYiL
