After Failure, Commissioner Still Hell-Bent On Asking God To Not Smite Her County Over Gay Marriage

One Tennessee commissioner who believes God will destroy America over same-sex marriage failed in her attempt to pass a resolution asking Him to spare her county, but she’s going to try again.

“We’re here to serve everyone,” Karen Miller insists, lamenting it was “unjust” that the Blount County Commissioners’ meeting was adjourned even before it got underway Tuesday night. “It’s not fair to the citizens. They’ve come all this way to speak and they should be allowed to speak.”

Miller is the county commissioner who is trying to get a vote on her resolution asking God to not destroy Blount County because same-sex marriage is now the law of the land. That resolution has made national news and has become so toxic that commissioners dodged a bullet last night by using a procedural trick, but there’s another meeting scheduled for next week, and Miller wants her resolution on the agenda. Last night she said she will “most likely” resubmit it.

Even though Tennessee is largely conservative, even some local conservatives aren’t pleased with Miller’s anti-gay agenda.

“I think the wrath of God is more inclined to fall on those people who are so condemning and judgmental,” retired Christian educator Ginny West Case told the Daily Times newspaper. And Brett Rich called it “a ridiculous waste of time and tax dollars.”

The Tennessee Equality Project was able to draw a good deal of local attention to Miller’s efforts, drawing over 100 protestors to the Blount County Courthouse Tuesday evening. The meeting itself had a packed audience of 120, with what appeared to be a substantial majority wearing red – indicating their opposition to the resolution.

Miller’s “Resolution Condemning Judicial Tyranny And Petitioning God’s Mercy” asks God to “pass us by in His Coming Wrath and not destroy our County as He did Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring cities.”

The resolution also says the county is “begging His favor in light of the fact that we have been forced to comply and recognize that the State of Tennessee, like so many other God-fearing States, MAY have fallen prey to a lawless judiciary in legalizing what God and the Bible expressly forbids.”

It also notes their “a firm reliance upon the providence of Almighty God” as they “call upon all of the Officers of the State of Tennessee, the Governor, the Attorney General, and the members of the Tennessee Legislature, to join US, and utilize all authority within their power to protect Natural Marriage, from lawless court opinions, AND THE financial schemes of the enemies of righteousness wherever the source AND defend the Moral Standards of Tennessee.”

The “Moral Standards of Tennessee” are not written anywhere, nor could we find the phrase published anywhere except in relation to Miller’s proposal.
