UPDATED: John Boehner Will Resign From Congress In October
John Boehner, succumbing to the far right wing in the GOP, will resign as Speaker, and from Congress.
John Boehner’s Speakership has been controversial since he took the gavel from Nancy Pelosi in 2011. The Tea Party and other right wing elements in the Republican Party have been a constant source of attacks.
Rep. Boehner will resign his speakership and from Congress in October, according to multiple reports.
“The Speaker believes putting members through prolonged leadership turmoil would do irreparable damage to the institution,” an unnamed aide said, according to The Hill.
“He is proud of what this majority has accomplished, and his Speakership, but for the good of the Republican Conference and the institution, he will resign the Speakership and his seat in Congress, effective October 30.”Â

Boehner likely does not want to preside over another attempt by the Tea Party and anti-Planned Parenthood extremists to shut down the government.
“Speaker Boehner believes that the first job of any Speaker is to protect this institution and, as we saw yesterday with the Holy Father, it is the one thing that unites and inspires us all,” that unnamed Boehner aide added.Â
