Anti-Gay Confederate Flag Supporting Conservatives Call For Gay Flag Ban In Wake Of Virginia Shooter

Anti-gay conservatives still angry the nation decided the Confederate flag is racist are claiming the gay pride flag is a symbol of anti-Christian hate and demanding again it be banned.

For 150 years, the confederate battle flag has been a symbol of hate, oppression, slavery, racism, and white supremacy.

As the nation began its Civil War, Southern leaders, like the Vice President of the Confederacy, Alexander Stephens, made clear why they were fighting: to maintain slavery.

Our new Government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition.

The new Constitution has put at rest forever all the agitating questions relating to our peculiar institutions—African slavery as it exists among us—the proper status of the negro in our form of civilization.

In June, when 21-year old Dylann Roof walked into a historically Black church in Charleston, South Carolina, sat and prayed among members of a Wednesday night Bible study class for an hour, then opened fire killing nine parishioners including State Senator and pastor Clementa Pinckney, the fate of the Confederate flag was sealed.

Internet sleuths later dug up images of Roof proudly posing with the Confederate flag, and holding a burning American flag, along with his racist manifesto. Later, his ties to white supremacist groups became clear.

Calls came from around the country and around the world for the Confederate flag to be banned from government buildings, license plate, and state flags.

Conservatives across the nation were furious, mounting protests, screaming, “Heritage, not hate,” in response to the very real fact that the Confederate flag is a symbol of hate.

In response, some called for a ban of the gay pride flag, conveniently, as just nine days after Roof’s racist massacre the U.S. Supreme Court ruled same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry.

This week, when a Vester Flanagan, Black gay man, seemingly mentally ill, as is or was Roof, gunned down two reporters, police subsequently found a gay pride flag in his squalid apartment.

Irrational and illogical calls once again resulted from anti-gay conservatives to ban the gay pride flag. Jim Treacher at the Daily Caller this morning wrote:

Dylann Roof is a white, heterosexual racist who murdered black people. He owned a Confederate flag. Therefore, we need to ban the Confederate flag.

Vester Flanagan was a black, gay racist who murdered white people. He owned a rainbow flag. Therefore, we need to ban guns.

Witness conservative logic: tweak and cherrypick the facts to support your claim so you can compare apples and oranges and come out with a conclusion that you think makes sense.

In the real world, however, it does not.

Dylan Roof did not just “own” a Confederate flag, he posed with it and used the belief system it represents to murder nine people. That belief system is one of hate, oppression, slavery, racism, and white supremacy.

Over at the racist and homophobic Breitbart News, John Nolte once again purveyed his filth.

“The Daily Telegraph has learned that ‘police reportedly confiscated a gay pride flag’ from the apartment of Vester Lee Flanagan Wednesday. In an apparent hate crime, Flanagan is the 41 year-old black journalist who murdered two white Virginia reporters on live television Wednesday morning before turning his gun on himself,” Nolte wrote.

“The gay pride rainbow flag reportedly found in Flanagan’s apartment is seen by many as a symbol of anti-Christian hate,” he added, failing to mention he has been among the leaders propagating that ludicrous claim.

InfoWars, the far-right wing conspiracy site, offered this yesterday:

Meanwhile, yesterday, Raw Story’s David Edwards called this attack on the gay pride flag a “petty grudge-mongering tantrum,” and posted tweets from conservatives, like Breitbart editor-at-large Ben Shapiro, whom Edwards labels a “perennial self-declared victim.”
