Bernie Sanders Announces, Explains Why He Is Running For President (Video)
Independent U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has just tossed his hat into the ring. Watch him explain why.Â
Saying he is “in this race to win,” Bernie Sanders today, as expected, announced he is running for President. And Independent who identifies as a Socialist, the 73-year old Brooklyn-born U.S. Senator from Vermont will challenge Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination.
In a speech outside the Capitol this morning, Sanders touted his vote against the Iraq war and his warnings about the future should the U.S. attack, which he says came true. Sanders likely will use that vote as a defining issue, as Clinton voted for the war.
Sanders also railed against income inequality, as he has long done, saying “the major issue is how do we create an economy that works for all of our people, rather than a small number of billionaires.Â
His new presidential campaign website, still not unexpectedly very bare-bones, at the bottom says, “Paid For By Bernie 2016,” and in parentheses, “Not The Billionaires.”
Sanders also said his other main issue is “the disastrous Supreme Court decision on Citizens United, we now have a political situation, as a result of Supreme Court decision, where billionaires are literally able to buy elections and candidates.”
Sen. Sanders also took a shot at the GOP, whom he says “does not even recognize the reality of climate change.”
Watch:
Bernie Sanders’ announcement for president marks the first time the word “Socialist” has ever been used correctly on Fox News.
