UPDATED: Michael Sam, Ambushed By TMZ, Says His Talent Isn’t Why He’s Not Playing In The NFL
Michael Sam ran into TMZ this morning at LAX, and after trying his best to look busy, acknowledged that his talent is not the reason he’s not playing pro football.
Most of us will never know what it’s like to get ambushed by the paparazzi, but Michael Sam sure does. This morning, TMZ found him in at Los Angeles International Airport, and grilled him a bit on his past and future.
Sam, trying his best to not be rude but clearly not up for an interview or attention, kept his eyes on his phone most of the time, but couldn’t resist answering a few questions.
Asked what his next steps are, Sam coyly responded, “Isn’t everyone curious?” He agreed his primary goal is still to play in the NFL, where he remains a free agent.
When asked a roundabout question why he is no longer playing in the NFL, Sam couldn’t help but note it was not “the level of talent” in the NFL that kept him out.
“I think I was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year last year … so I don’t think it had to do with talent,” Sam responded.
TMZ took that to mean, “he believes he’s on the outs because he’s out.”
We wish Michael all the best. He’ll be back!
