David Duke: GOP Rep. Scalise Isn’t Only One – There Are ‘A Lot’ I’m Tied To
Neo-Nazi David Duke, the head of a racist hate group and a former KKK grand Wizard whose convention Rep. Steve Scalise spoke to in 2002, says there are “a lot” more politicians he’s tied to. Perhaps he should prove it?
Yesterday news broke that the Republicans’ number three man in the House, Majority Whip Steve Scalise, delivered a speech to a racist White Supremacist group in 2002. Rep. Scalise admitted he delivered the speech but claimed that in 2002 it’s not like he could just Google “David Duke” or his group, the European-American Unity and Rights Organization (EURO), and says he had no idea of Duke’s affiliations nor the group’s. Of course, Rep. Scalise should probably Google “Google” now, since the search engine has been around since 1998.
David Duke was a Grand Wizard for the KKK, was a Republican Louisiana State Representative, served time in prison for felony tax fraud, and is a White Supremacist and a neo-Nazi, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. And he has something more to add to the problem confronting GOP Leadership and Speaker of the House John Boehner.
Speaker Boehner, by the way, today issued a “Statement Supporting Whip Scalise“:
“More than a decade ago, Representative Scalise made an error in judgment, and he was right to acknowledge it was wrong and inappropriate.  Like many of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, I know Steve to be a man of high integrity and good character.  He has my full confidence as our Whip, and he will continue to do great and important work for all Americans.â€Â
Duke told Fusion in an article published early this morning that Congressman Scalise is not the only politician he has ties to, and warned them all to lay off of Scalise or he’ll start naming names.
“If Scalise is going to be crucified — if Republicans want to throw Steve Scalise to the woods, then a lot of them better be looking over their shoulders,†Duke said.
Fusion adds that “Duke was rather flabbergasted by the new focus on Scalise. He said he has hosted both Democratic and Republican legislators at everything from conferences to his children’s birthday parties. He said he has met with Democratic legislators at least 50 times in his political life.”
On his website today, Duke puts the number of politicians he has ties to at “dozens.”
Should Duke be trusted? Should his threat be taken seriously?
In this case, hopefully yes.
It’s high time the American people learn the true nature and beliefs of those whom we pay to represent us at the highest levels of government.
It’s no secret that as a party the GOP is anti-LGBT, anti-women, anti-education, anti-immigrant, anti-choice, anti-science, and anti-equality. It’s no secret that the Republican Party has worked hard – not only in the past but right up to today – to make it hard or impossible for young people and minorities to vote, has made it hard or impossible for women to have control over their own bodies, for Blacks to stand on the same footing as whites, for gay people to marry; the list seems unending.
Dr. Duke, I urge you to stick to your guns. Share with us the names of those who share your disgusting beliefs, so America may finally see a new day unclouded by ugly hate.
