Breaking: Democrat Charlie Crist Loses Florida Gubernatorial Race
Democrat Charlie Crist narrowly lost his race to unseat Republican Governor Rick Scott.
The AP reports that Rick Scott has been re-elected as the Governor of Florida.
Many believed Scott’s performance during the debates, including his embarrassing attack on Crist’s fan, spawning days of Fangate jokes, lost him the election.
Crist was the Republican Governor of the Sunshine State, later became an Independent when running for the Senate, then moved to the Democratic Party.
Salon’s Luke Brinker notes that “Crist’s narrow loss may spell the end of his political career. Elected Florida governor as a Republican in 2006, he left the GOP during his 2010 U.S. Senate campaign, when Tea Partyer Marco Rubio was poised to defeat him in the GOP primary. Running as an independent, Crist lost the election to Rubio by double digits.”
Crist supports same-sex marriage. Scott, and his twice-divorced Attorney General Pam Bondi, do not.
