Benham Brothers Defend ‘America’s Family,’ The Duggars, From ‘Those Who Hate Truth’

The anti-gay Benham brothers have rushed to defend their friends, “19 Kids and Counting” parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar.

As nearly everyone knows by now, there has been an unofficial battle of petitions to cancel – or save – TLC’s infamous – or famous – reality TV show, “19 Kids and Counting.” It all started last week, when E! Online dug up an old Change.org petition asking TLC to cancel the Duggar family show, because matriarch Michelle Duggar had recorded a very ugly robocall attacking transgender people.

Soon, the petition jumped from 7000 signatures to over 100,000. It now has over 170,000 signatures.

And soon, seeing an opportunity to pad their email – and thus, fundraising – lists, groups like the American Family Association and Christian websites like Lifesite News were hawking their own petitions – to keep the Duggars on the air.

The anti-gay petitions have been, well, “mischaracterizing” what Michelle Duggar said in her hateful robocall, and anti-gay positions of the Duggar family themselves.

And they’re “winning” the unofficial battle of petitions.

So, enter the Duggar’s friends in Christian evangelism, Jason and David Benham, better known as the Benham Brothers.

“Since when is it considered ‘fear mongering’ to say that God designed a man to be with a woman, or that kids deserve to have a mom and a dad, or that the ladies room should be for biological females?” David Benham said in an interview with the Christian news site, CNS News. “Saying the Duggars are inciting people to hate is simply propaganda.”

So, in all fairness, here’s what Michelle Duggar actually said in her robocall opposing a proposed non-discrimination ordinance for Fayetteville, Arkansas:

“Hello, this is Michelle Duggar,” Michelle says in the recording. “I’m calling to inform you of some shocking news that would affect the safety of Northwest Arkansas women and children. The Fayetteville City Council is voting on an ordinance this Tuesday night that would allow men — yes, I said men — to use women’s and girls’ restrooms, locker rooms, showers, sleeping areas and other areas that are designated for females only.”

“I don’t believe the citizens of Fayetteville would want males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls. I doubt that Fayetteville parents would stand for a law that would endanger their daughters or allow them to be traumatized by a man joining them in their private space. We should never place the preference of an adult over the safety and innocence of a child. Parents, who do you want undressing next to your daughter at the public swimming pool’s private changing area?”

Really? “Males with past child predator convictions”?

But to the Benhams, that’s not “fear mongering,” somehow.

Of course, there’s more.

“Truth is considered hate to those who hate the truth,” Jason Benham told CNS News. “George Orwell said it even better, ‘The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those who speak it.’”

Pot, kettle, black.

He also calls the Family Research Council, designated an anti-gay hate group for spreading lies, “a fine Christian organization that is quite the opposite of hateful.” Josh, the eldest Duggar son, is the executive director of FRC Action, the Family Research Council’s political attack arm.

And, Jason Benham says, the Duggars are “[a model of] a loving and healthy family.”

Really?

Blogger Libby Anne has thoroughly debunked that claim.

But remember, it’s gay people “who hate the truth.”
