‘You Think Ebola Is Bad Now, Just Wait!’: North Carolina Pastor Warns About Gay Marriage
Fire, brimstone, Ebola, and same-sex marriage apparently are all sounding the alarm, if you happen to be North Carolina Pastor Ron Baity. Listen…
In Sunday’s sermon, Pastor Ron Baity of North Carolina’s Berean Baptist Church told his parishioners, “Listen, folks, it’s on. You might as well get ready for it. It’s on. It’s just a matter of time when they’re going to say to the churches… It’s just a matter of time before our constitution in our churches will be overturned like our state constitution just been overturned this week. I mean, it’s coming.â€
What’s coming?
Homosexuality, same-sex marriage, and the End Times, of course.
Along with Ebola.
Of course, Baity, a Southern Baptist preacher, was sure to include the required comparison of homosexuality to bestiality.
David Edwards at The Raw Story transcribed parts of Pastor Baity’s nearly-hour-long sermon, if you can imagine.Â
“I’d hate to think that a bull in the pasture and a cow has more sense than a PhD in a university,” Pastor Baity announced — to chuckles and applause — from the congregation.
“I’d hate to think that two skunks in the backyard are smarter than a judge that supposed to have studied the laws of the land,†Baity announced. Saying because we’ve had “for 150-plus years laws on the books,” against homosexuality and same-sex marriage, Baity insisted there’s no reason to change them now.
“Listen, we’re not getting wiser, we’re getting dumber! We’re not getting smarter. My friend, we are meriting, we are bringing the judgment of God on this nation as sure as Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed, don’t be surprised at the plagues. Don’t be surprised at the judgment of God.â€
“You think Ebola is bad now, just wait,” Pastor Baity warned. “If it’s not that, it’s going to be something else. My friends, I want you to understand, you can’t thumb your nose at God, and God turn his head away without God getting your attention.â€
Pastor Baity continued to rail against same-sex marriage.
“They were doing something that was not normal, they were doing something that was not natural, and as a result of that, like God judged this world with a flood, he judged Sodom and Gomorrah with fire!†Baity charged.
“The most blasphemous thing I’ve heard in 40 years of ministry, I heard on the news last night, where rogue judges have gone against the will of the ministry and made America a country where there’s totalitarianism, where there are judges who have set themselves up as dictators to overthrow the will of the people! And they placed their sanction upon marriage that is out of the habitation of God’s creation!â€
“So the book of the Revelation is about End Times events and what happens when this world is destroyed by fire, when the stars and the universe and the sun and the moon, like untimely figs cast from a tree, are just completely done away with and annihilated,†Baity promised.
Baity also told his congregation that blessing a same-sex marriage is “raw, pure blasphemy.”
Edwards adds,
In 2012, the year that North Carolina voted for a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, Baity preached that LGBT people were like “maggots†and murderers, who were promoting “perversion†in schools. That same year, Tony Perkins personally awarded Baity the Family Research Council’s top “pro-family†award.
Jeremy Hooper at Good As You recorded a short clip of Baity’s attack. “You know,” Hooper observes about same-sex marriage, “because you’ve all hear about those major Ebola outbreaks that have plagued Massachussetts all decade.”
