Watch: Rachel Maddow Explains How Same-Sex Marriage States Nearly Doubled In 36 Hours

“That was fast!” Rachel Maddow exclaims as she covers the quick, nearly-doubling of states that will now extend marriage to same-sex couples.

In the video above from last night’s show, Rachel Maddow explains how on Monday, same-sex couples could marry in 19 states across America, and by Tuesday evening that number jumped to 35.

Maddow explains the Supreme Court announcement in which it declined to hear any of the seven same-sex marriage cases presented, and the impact that had. She also talks about yesterday afternoon’s 9th Circuit Court ruling striking down same-sex marriage bans in Idaho and Nevada, and how that actually added not two but five states to the list.

The MSNBC anchor then moves into how America is moving forward on marriage rights, but backward on voting rights — hence the image you see before the video plays — an important topic you won’t want to miss.
