Watch: Sir Ian McKellen Narrates This Powerful New Anti-Bullying Video
Sir Ian McKellen has narrated a very powerful and compelling 60-second anti-bullying video, which was released by Stonewall UK last night. In the video, the 74-year old actor best known for his roles in the X-Men and The Lord of the Rings trilogies, warns, “What we learn as children, can last a lifetime.”
The film “will be shown at the British Film Institute’s Flare (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) festival on 25 March,” Campaign Love reports.
Stonewall UK, an LGBT non-profit of McKellen helped co-found in 1988, earned about $650,000 at its annual fundraiser last night as it premiered the video for its new No Bystanders campaign, according to Pink News.
“Each and every one of us – individuals and organisations – have a responsibility to make Britain a country where every child growing up feels able to be themselves,” the new No Bystanders campaign, “Stonewall’s campaign to tackle bullying and abuse,” says.
The site also offers a pledge supporters can sign:
I will never be a bystander to bullying and teasing language. If I hear it, I will call it out and if I can, I will stop it. By adding my name I promise to stand up for fairness, kindness and never be a bystander.
