Sorry, Conservatives, Donald Sterling Is A Registered Republican
No doubt there are plenty of racists in the Democratic Party, but day by day by day it becomes even clearer that the Republican Party is the real home to racists. Rancher and delinquent Cliven Bundy was the most recent example, until this weekend when L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling was pegged as the voice on a recording making ugly, vile, and racist comments.

So of course, over the weekend, the first thing the right wing blogs did was look for a way to deflect Sterling’s comments and try to make it look like liberals are the real racists — which is what they do whenever there’s a scandal that’s going to make them look even worse than they usually do.
So did the conservatives on Social media. Case in point:

Mother Jones, who of course always does excellent work (they’re the folks who ultimately got Mitt Romney’s “47 percent” comments out into the mainstream) were able to do a bit of research (we tried but didn’t have Sterling’s home address) and find that despite the fact that the LA Clippers owner donated $2000 back in 1989 and 1991 to a few Democrats, since 1998 Donald terming has been a registered Republican.
Which really busts the bubble for all those right wing blogs and #tcot folks.
Matt Drudge: “NBA Sterling is a Democrat…”Â
Fox Nation: “Report: Clippers Owner Caught In Racist Rant Is A Democratic Donor”Â
Daily Caller: “Race Hate Spewing Clippers Owner Is Democratic Donor” Mother Jones reports, “here’s a news flash for those conservatives eager to bring up the topic: He’s a Republican.”
On Sunday, Michael Hiltzik, a Los Angeles Times columnist, tweeted that local voter records show Sterling to be a registered Republican “since 1998.” We followed up on that, and a search of the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder’s website for Sterling’s name, date of birth, and address confirmed that he’s registered as a Republican…
Sorry conservatives, he’s one of yours. Again.
