Russia Slams Europe For Pushing ‘Alien View Of Homosexuality And Same-Sex Marriage’ As Normal

var addthis_config = {“data_track_addressbar”:true};Russia is ramping up anti-gay rhetoric just weeks ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. In a scathing and embarrassingly self-contradictory human rights report, the Russian foreign ministry attacks the European Union (EU) for what it claims are human rights abuses and for exporting an “aggressive homosexual propaganda” to other countries.
The report accuses Europe of attempting “to enforce on other countries an alien view of homosexuality and same-sex marriages as a norm of life and some kind of a natural social phenomenon that deserves support at the state level.â€
It also claims the EU states “consider, as one of their priorities, the dissemination of their neo-liberal values as a universal lifestyle for all other members of the international community.”
The report finds increasingly “serious problems in the human rights sphere†in the EU, including “a steady growth of xenophobia, racism, violent nationalism, chauvinism and neo-Nazism.â€
Sadly, it is Russia itself that is supporting and breeding that very steady growth of xenophobia, racism, violent nationalism, chauvinism and neo-Nazism — and it is well-documented that Russia’s LGBT community is their victim.
Buzzfeed reports that at “one point, the English version of the report refers to gay people as ‘queers’ — even though the Russian original refers to them as ‘people with non-traditional orientation,'” and observes that “Russia has been increasingly reverting to “whataboutism,†a Cold War-era tactic that would see Soviet propagandists respond to accusations of persecuting dissidents by accusing the U.S. of doing the same thing.”
