After today’s Indiana House Judiciary Committee hearing on banning same-sex marriage through a constitutional amendment, hundreds are right now rallying to oppose the legislation.
Indiana is trying to write discrimination directly into its constitution. Hundreds opposed to HJR3, the anti-gay marriage bill, flooded Indianapolis Artsgarden, with the crowd chanting “delayed does not mean denied.” Lawmakers today delayed a scheduled vote after what seemed like a preponderance of local Hoosiers showed up to speak against the legislation.
The legislation not only bans same-sex marriage, it would prohibit any future attempts to offer any citizens –gay or straight — domestic partnerships or civil unions.
Currently also, the ACLU is debating an anti-gay organization the Illinois Family Institute on the marriage bill. You can watch live here.
