GOP Senator Slams John Kerry: ‘What Must God Think’ By Supporting LGBT People In Uganda?
Wisconsin Republican state senator Glenn Grothman spoke with the anti-gay religious right group Voice of Christian Youth America earlier this month and attacked U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry for trying to educate Ugandan political leaders on homosexuality. Kerry, as Hillary Clinton before him, had worked to get the president of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, to veto the “Jail The Gays” bill. Museveni signed it into law in February.
Secretary Kerry soon after announced he would send U.S. scientists to Uganda to help them understand homosexuality in an effort to end anti-LGBT persecution.
Sen. Grothman took issue with Kerry’s anti-persecution efforts.
He lamented to the anti-gay Voice of Christian Youth America that “what we have is the Secretary of State going to Africa and educating Ugandans or saying he is going to send American scientists to Uganda to explain how normal homosexuality is.”
Apparently, that’s a problem for the 58-year old Grothman, who is also a member of ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council).
“Think about that. I mean, what must God think of our country? We had such a great country in the relatively recent past. Now America, which is supposed to be the light of the world, instead we’re the light going the opposite direction. I guess I wish we had more political leaders and religious leaders speaking out and saying, what in the world is John Kerry doing?
“I mean, what must God think of our country? If now, rather than sending people to Uganda to explain better agricultural techniques, sending missionaries to Africa educating people on Christianity, we send scientists to Africa to say how wonderful the homosexual lifestyle is. It is just unbelievable what has become of our country.”
In 2012, Grothman tried to pass a bill that would classify “non marital parenthood†as a cause of child abuse, automatically legally-labeling same-sex couples and all gay people raising children as child abusers. He also claimed that single mothers are “trained†to lie about unintended pregnancies, claiming that most “unintended pregnancies†are totally intended, and that our “culture†glamorizes single parenthood.
