GOP Senator: Putin Invaded Ukraine Because Of Benghazi
Perhaps one of the most disgusting responses to a challenge from one’s own party can be seen in the behavior of Republican Lindsey Graham. A veteran U.S. Senator for over a decade, Graham also served the people of South Carolina as a U.S. Congressman from 1995-2003. That’s almost two full decades as a national leader, and over that time Graham was often a statesman, working across the aisle to reach consensus on important legislation.
But for the past year, Sen. Graham has gone off the rails, tacking further right seemingly weekly to appease the Tea Party — and to hold on to his seat.
After twenty years in office, shouldn’t one’s principles be more important than one’s seat?
Today, in a disgusting and smarmy toss of Tea Party red meat, Senator Lindsey Graham posted this vile — and false — tweet:

It started with Benghazi. When you kill Americans and nobody pays a price, you invite this type of aggression. #Ukraine

Yes, Benghazi.
The crisis in the Ukraine happened because the United States didn’t bring to justice those who killed four Americans in Benghazi.
Bull.
Think Progress reminds us that “the Russian incursion into Crimea was motivated principally by Russian strategic concerns after the fall of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych,” not Benghazi.
And, one quick tweeter posted this response to Sen. Graham:

UPDATE:
UGH. @grahamblog , you are an embarrassment to all who truly care about Benghazi. Just stop==> https://t.co/CGBxaLVebu
