Gays Want ‘Special Rights For Self-Professed Behavior’ Says Tea Party Congressman

Tea Party Congressman Steve King isn’t happy with Jan Brewer. After the Republican Arizona governor vetoed SB-1062, King, who serves the people of Iowa, went on a local TV news talk show and disparaged gays and civil rights laws, all in one fell swoop.

King, curiously thinks that entrepreneurs have “God-given rights that our founding fathers defined in the Declaration,” but gay people don’t have any rights.

Why?

Because being gay is a “self-professed behavior” and can’t be “independently verified.”

King, in 2012, said that gays should lie about their sexuality unless they want to risk being fired for being gay, which government can’t stop. An d in 2009, King wanted the name of the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Bill changed to the “Local Law Enforcement Thought Crimes Prevention Act of 2009,” because he doesn’t believe in the concept of hate crimes.

But apparently, King all of a sudden has forgotten all the thing he’s said about LGBT people, now that there’s a legal standard to be met.

“Although it’s clear in the civil rights section of the code that you can’t discriminate against people based upon …race, creed, religion, color of skin, those kinds of things,” Rep. King said, “there’s nothing mentioned in there on self-professed behavior, and that’s what they’re trying to perfect, is special rights for self-professed behavior, and I think it’s difficult for us to define a law that would protect behavior.”

Hmm…

“Difficult for us to define a law that would protect behavior.”

Let’s see how difficult that would be…

Oh yes, how about Arizona’s SB-1062, which would protect the behavior of discriminating against gay people, by people of faith — which is a “self-professed behavior” that can’t be “independently verified.”

These right wing Tea Party religious zealots just keep making this easier and easier and easier…
