Anti-Gay Benham Brothers On HGTV Cancellation: Anyone Who Says We Hate Gays Is ‘Lying’
HGTV yesterday canceled plans for “Flip it Forward,†a new TV reality show after viewers complained the stars are anti-gay. Twins David and Jason Benham, graduates of Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University, have actively organized protests against same-sex marriage.
This morning, in response to HGTV pulling the plug, the Benham brothers said they “were saddened to hear HGTV’s decision,” adding a holier-than-thou slant:
“With all of the grotesque things that can be seen and heard on television today you would think there would be room for two twin brothers who are faithful to our families, committed to biblical principles, and dedicated professionals. If our faith costs us a television show then so be it.”
The brothers insist they aren’t anti-gay, and flat out state anyone who says they are “is either misinformed or lying.”
“The first and last thought on our minds as we begin and end each day is; have we shined Christ’s light today? Our faith is the fundamental calling in our lives, and the centerpiece of who we are. As Christians we are called to love our fellow man. Anyone who suggests that we hate homosexuals or people of other faiths is either misinformed or lying. Over the last decade, we’ve sold thousands of homes with the guiding principle of producing value and breathing life into each family that has crossed our path, and we do not, nor will we ever discriminate against people who do not share our views.”

In his home state of North Carolina, David Benham in 2012 said voters who opposed a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage needed “a citywide church service of repentance.” On the radio show of an extreme religious right activist, Benham went off on “homosexuality and its agenda that is attacking the nation.”
UPDATE: HGTV Slammed For Excluding Anti-Gay Christian Consumers From America’s ‘Rainbow Of Diversity’
According to Right Wing Watch, David Benham has also compared fighting same-sex marriage to fighting Hitler’s Nazis, he’s written that same-sex marriage “erodes the moral fabric of our society,” and cited Leviticus to say that gay men will never find true love.  Â
