Waitress Accused Of Fraud Over ‘Lifestyle’ Tip Accused Of Earning Dishonorable Discharge
Dayna Morales, the New Jersey waitress and former Marine who claimed last month the only tip she received from one family was an attack on her “lifestyle,” is now being accused of being dishonorably discharged, and of being a liar.
A few weeks ago, Morales sent a receipt to Have A Gay Day, which read, “I’m sorry I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle and the way you live your life” written across it.
Â
The receipt went viral. The New Civil Rights Movement spoke with Morales on the phone. She told us she had received a great deal of support from her employer and coworkers, who are like “family” to her.
But after NBC’s local New York City News Channel 4 reported on the receipt attack, one family contacted them and offered as proof their Visa statement and the original receipt that showed no slur — and an $18 tip.
Now Morales, in this NBC News story, is being accused of having earned a dishonorable discharge, and of being a compulsive liar — even having claimed she had brain cancer, when she did supposedly did not.
Citing “a Pentagon source” NBC 4 New York reports “that Morales was dismissed from the Marine Reserve Corps in May because she wasn’t attending drills.”
Morales was formally discharged, or released from the Marines, under conditions that were other than honorable, according to the source.
A woman who served with Morales told NBC 4 New York that the commitment is a serious one.
“I wouldn’t want anyone to think she was a part of my Marine Corps family, because she’s not,” said the woman, who asked to remain anonymous because she is still on active duty.
NBC NY also featured a “woman who says she and Morales worked together at a Cheesecake Factory in Nyack, N.Y., last year said Morales told coworkers she had brain cancer.”
“She came in with her hair shaved because she wanted to shave it herself before she lost it,” said Jacqie Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick said Morales also leaned on the cancer story to accept offers of help from friends at work.
This is the fourth report The New Civil Rights Movement has published on Dayna Morales. On our Facebook page we called her a “hero” at one point. It’s disappointing, if these allegations are true, that anyone would accuse someone of attacking the LGBT community when they did not — especially when there are daily attacks that deserve the nation’s attention.
