Todd Akin: Evolution Not ‘A Matter Of Science’
Tea Party Republican Todd Akin says that evolution is not “a matter of science,” because he’s “taken a look at both sides of the thing.” Akin is a U.S. Congressman who dominated headlines for months and temporarily lost support of the RNC after his comments claiming some rapes of women are “legitimate,” and that women rarely if ever get pregnant from being raped. Congressman Akin, ironically, given his comments on rape and evolution, sits on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology and its Subcommittee on Energy and Environment.
“I don’t see it as even a matter of science because I don’t know that you can prove one or the other,” Akin said yesterday at a Tea Party event in Jefferson City, Missouri, Think Progress reported. “That’s one of those things. We can talk about theology and all of those other things but I’m basically concerned about, you’ve got a choice between Claire McCaskill and myself. My job is to make the thing there. If we want to do theoretical stuff, we can do that, but I think I better stay on topic.”

Last month, Akin told supporters at a town hall that he believes employers should have the right to pay women less and the government should not enforce equal pay for equal work rules. Akin also told told a voter that the best way to get his attention is, “write me a decent check.â€
Akin is running for the U.S. Senate seat against Senator Claire McCaskill. While Akin’s rape comments hurt him, he still has a chance of winning.
Senator McCaskill is currently ahead in the polls:
