Tea Party Cheers Upon Hearing America’s Credit Rating Downgraded (Video)
There should be no doubt the Tea Party wants America to die. There should be no doubt upon watching this video, upon witnessing the actions of the Tea Party in Congress this year, after hearing Rep. Jason Chaffetz say, “We weren’t kidding around, either. We would have taken it [the economy] down,” after hearing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell say his top priority is to make Obama a one-term president — at any cost, or after hearing Rush Limbaugh say two years ago of Obama, “I hope he fails.” No, there should be no surprise here, none at all, hearing the Tea Party cheer upon hearing that America’s credit rating was downgraded.
The Tea Party wants to take credit for America’s financial decline. The Tea Party is glad to carry the blame, no, the Tea Party wants the blame for the DOW dropping 634 points Monday, and a thousand points in the past week.
“Here’s what happened: Midway through the Fond du Lac event, Florida talk show host Andrea Shea King took the stage,” reports Mother Jones. “She told the audience that commentators were describing the downgrade of US debt to AA+ from AAA as the “tea party downgrade,” laying the blame squarely on Congress’ right-wing faction and its supporters. But rather than boo those who claim the tea party caused the downgrade, the 200 or so Wisconsinites in attendance cheered, sounding almost proud to be blamed for the downgrade.”
The Chicago Tribune’s E.J. Dionne today wrote, “the world is looking to the United States to help power a recovery and provide leadership at a time when we are suffocatingly inward-looking — and when ultraconservatives are so dogmatic about slashing government that they are prepared to boot away our nation’s influence. Default? No problem.
“We weren’t kidding around, either,” Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, told The Washington Post. “We would have taken it down.” He said it with pride, yet the “it” involved the American economy and America’s standing around the globe. This is patriotism?”
