South Carolina: Mark Sanford Beats Elizabeth Colbert Busch In Special Congressional Election
Former Republican Governor Mark Sanford has beat Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch in a special Congressional election for SC-01. Colbert Busch would have been the first woman in a half-century to take the seat.
Sanford is a cheater, a thief, and a liar, but Sanford’s comeback proves conservative voters — at least in South Carolina — don’t really care about social issues or family values or respecting women or even fiscal responsibility, which says so much, but is wholly unsurprising. And just a few weeks ago it was revealed his ex-wife caught him having broken into her home.

Sanford was plagued by his “Appalachian Trail” legacy, having abandoned the state for four days to be with his mistress while married, leaving the country, and leaving the South Carolina National Guard without a Commander-In-Chief. Sanford also used state funds for the trips, compounding the egregiousness of his actions.
As this is a special election, he will have to run again for the seat next year.
Mitt Romney won the district by 18 points last year. Colbert Busch was up by nine points a month or so ago, but that lead narrowed over the past few weeks.
