Scott Brown Major Gaffe: Scalia Is A ‘Model’ Supreme Court Justice
Republican Senator Scott Brown says that uber-conservative Associate Justice Antonin Scalia is his favorite — or, “model” — judge on the Supreme Court. Brown made the remarks last night at a debate with Elizabeth Warren, to many boos. Antonin Scalia is viewed by many as an extremist, and is a self-profesed texturalist, once admitting, “I’m a conservative. I’m a texturalist. I’m an originalist.”
Brown, trying to fix his poor choice, given he is the Senator of Massachusetts, quickly swerved, adding, “Justice Kennedy is obviously very good, and Justice Roberts, Justice Sotomayor, they’re all very qualified people there.”
Warren responded to the question by naming Associate Justice Elena Kagan.
Scalia believes in zero interpretation of the Constitution, and does not agree our founding fathers intended the document as a “living” document meant to grow and be interpreted. Â Scalia believes if the words are not specifically written in the Constitution, they do not exist, and therefore is opposed to landmark legislation like Roe vs. Wade, and does not find a right to same-sex marriage in the constitution.
