Real Occupiers Don’t Pay Taxes? Zucotti Park Owners Owe NYC $139,000
Zucotti Park owners Brookfield Properties owe New York City $139,000 in back taxes for the years 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, according to the NYC Finance Department. New York City mayor Mike Bloomberg’s girlfriend Diana Taylor is on Brookfield’s Board of Directors. One would think all the negative publicity the mayor and Brookfield are getting would spur them to pay their taxes, no?
The Occupy Wall Street protestors, fortunately, have restored Zucotti Park — named for the Chairman of Brookfield Properties, John Zuccotti — to its original name, “Liberty Plaza.”
The New York Daily News adds:
“That’s obviously ironic,†said City Councilman Jumaane Williams (D-Brooklyn), who was arrested last month protesting the NYPD clearing of Zuccotti Park.
“Occupy Wall Street has been talking about economic disparity . . . and here’s Brookfield Properties, which has worked with the mayor to keep the messengers out, not paying their share.â€
Â
In all fairness, apparently “the Philadelphia Eagles, the WNBA, Heineken USA, Comcast Sports, the company that built the Trump International Building on Central Park West, the Binder and Binder law firm, the OTR Media billboard company, former City Council President Andrew Stein and the Rev. Al Sharpton,” according to the News, also owe New York City back taxes.
Also, in stupid right wing “journalism” news, unions and left-wing groups organize Occupy Wall Street, and George Soros and many wealthy Democrat supporters own stock in Brookfield. I’m pretty sure many Republicans own stock in Brookfield, to, but screaming “George Soros” to the Tea Party is like screaming “cherry pie” to me.
Wait… did I hear someone say, “pie”?
