Maker Of ‘My First Rifle’ Used In 2-Year Old’s Death Puts Warning Label — On Beanie Babies
“My First Rifle,” a gun made by Crickett, has taken down their Facebook and Twitter pages, and, in fact, their entire website since news broke early last week that a My First Rifle was used by a five year old Kentucky boy in the accidental shooting death of his two-year old sister. The company, a division of Keystone Sporting Arms, also sells accessories for its Crickett brand, including hats, carrying cases, and even a small stuffed “Davey Crickett Beanie Baby.”

The “Beanie Baby” — not, in fact, an actual Beanie Baby branded toy, according to a representative at Ty, the owner of the Beanie baby trademark and manufacturer of Beanie Babies, who told The New Civil Rights Movement by phone that Ty is “not affiliated” with Crickett — bears a warning in the Crickett catalog: “Not for children under three years of age.”
The faux Beanie Baby is the only product Crickett sells that bears a warning label in the copy of the Crickett catalog which was posted online by the website “Yelling At The TV.”
None of the seventeen rifles in the Crickett catalog below bear any warnings.
Yelling At The TV, by the way, is the website of James Carter, the man credited with finding the Mitt Romney “47 percent” videos which Mother Jones published and which are credited with helping President Barack Obama win re-election by highlighting Romney’s policies and perceptions.
