GOP Congressman Steve King, a notoriously anti-gay, small government hypocrite, told a reporter that gays should lie about their sexuality unless they want to risk being fired for being gay, and that government has no business telling business they cannot fire someone just because they’re gay.
“In the first place, I would think that unless someone makes their sexuality public, it’s not anybody’s business, so neither is it our business to tell an employer who to hire. He won’t know who to discriminate against in the first place,” Rep. King told Think Progress’s Scott Keyes in an exclusive interview.
“To Rep. Steve King (R-IA), the problem is not that it’s legal for employers to fire an employee for being gay. It’s that the employee made his sexual orientation publicly known in the first place,” Keyes writes, and reports:
We asked if this meant that he opposed the idea of forbidding businesses from firing an employee because of her sexual orientation. “How do you know someone’s sexual orientation?†he countered, before proposing an idea similar to the recently repealed “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell†policy regarding gays in the military. “I would think that unless someone makes their sexuality public, it’s not anybody’s business, so neither is it our business to tell an employer who to hire.â€
KEYES: Would that encompass, for instance, the government being able to tell businesses who they can hire and fire?
KING: Yeah, they shouldn’t be able to do that [to] a private business.
KEYES: Even if those were to be regulations say on a matter of sexual orientation or gender or other stuff like that?
KING: How do you know someone’s sexual orientation? I don’t know how you discriminate against someone because of their sexual orientation. That’s their business.
KEYES: I guess if it became public knowledge that an employee were lesbian or gay.
KING: You have private sector businesses here and they need to have freedom to operate. In the first place, I would think that unless someone makes their sexuality public, it’s not anybody’s business, so neither is it our business to tell an employer who to hire. He won’t know who to discriminate against in the first place.
Hypocritically, and ironically, Rep. King, who vehemently opposes same-sex marriage and abortion, and “Obamacare,” but supports government intrusion in a woman’s right to get an abortion — supporting transvaginal ultrasounds – and anything belonging in the 21st century, last week attended a Tea Party rally against Obamacare and stood in front of the U.S. Supreme Court, shouting, “Keep you law off my body!â€
In 2010, King attacked the “enemies†of America: “Liberals, Progressives, Maoists, Socialists, Marxists.”

‘Objective Is to Destroy Democrats’: Trump-Loving MAGA Broadcaster Admits He Doesn’t Care About ‘Being Factual’
MAGA “life coach” and right-wing broadcaster Brenden Dilley admitted during his program today that he doesn’t care about the truth of the things he says and that he has no problem “making shit up” because his “objective is to destroy Democrats” and “anything that opposes President Trump.”
“I don’t give a fuck about being factual,” Dilley said. “I make shit up all the time.”
“I don’t give a fuck,” he continued. “My objective is to destroy Democrats, OK? To destroy liberals, liberalism as an idea, Democrats, and anything that opposes President Trump. That’s my goal. I’ve never made any bones about that.”
“You don’t have to fact check me because I don’t give a fuck,” Dilley added. “I fucking make up shit sometimes, from time to time. I don’t care. I don’t care. Democrats know it. Republicans know it. I don’t mind admitting it. I don’t give a shit … When I get a chance to shit on the left, I don’t mind making shit up. No, not at all.”
On Tuesday, Dilley praised the president’s baseless accusation that MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough had something to do with the 2001 death of a woman who worked in Scarborough’s congressional office and urged his listeners to start “investigating” whether Scarborough may have also been involved in the 1996 death of JonBenét Ramsey.

Trump Press Secretary Warns of ‘A Lot of Fraud’ in Mail-In Voting – but Voted by Mail 11 Times in 10 Years
WH Press Sec. McEnany declined to answer questions on what Trump believed was illegal about Michigan’s absentee ballot policies.
— POLITICO (@politico) May 20, 2020
As The Tampa Bay Times reports, McEnany “has voted by mail in every Florida election she has participated in since 2010, according to a Tampa Bay Times review of her voting history. Most recently, she voted by mail in the state’s March 2020 presidential primary, just as Trump did after he made Florida his new permanent home.”
Sticking with her usual combative and misleading stance, McEnany attacked the Tampa Bay newspaper for its accurate reporting, in a statement packed with falsehoods.
“Absentee voting has the word absent in it for a reason. It means you’re absent from the jurisdiction or unable to vote in person. President Trump is against the Democrat plan to politicize the coronavirus and expand mass mail-in voting without a reason, which has a high propensity for voter fraud. This is a simple distinction that the media fails to grasp.”
But Florida does not have “absentee voting.” Anyone can request a mail-in ballot for any reason, or none.
There is an “infinitesimally small” percent of vote by mail fraud, studies show. The Brennan Center did the math: “Rounded to the seventh decimal point, that’s 0.0000001 percent of all votes cast.”
Contrary to claims by the President and his press secretary, Trump was in Florida, at Mar-a-Lago, this year on March 7, 8, and 9, and could have voted in the Florida primary in person if he wished, as the Sun Sentinel reported.
US Breaks 100,000 Mark for Coronavirus Deaths
At 1:02 PM the United States coronavirus death toll passed the 100,000 mark. It’s been just four months and eight days since the first case of the deadly virus was diagnosed in the U.S.
President Donald Trump spent months not taking action and downplaying the threat, then falsely claiming it would “disappear,” like a “miracle.”
A new study shows President Trump’s decision to cut off incoming traffic from China forced hundreds of thousands to enter the U.S. without being tested, likely resulting in the huge numbers of coronavirus infections. Trump repeated that deadly error when he shut down traffic from Europe.
The United States has more infections and more coronavirus deaths than any other nation, by far.
