What’s acceptable to the gay community? Domestic partnerships? Civil marriage? Religious marriage? I’ve been trying to find out, so I offered up a poll. The results probably won’t surprise you. 68% voted for full marriage, saying that “separate but equal” was not sufficient. And you’re right. Separate but equal is insufficient. We knew that way back when.Â
Names have meaning. Deep meaning. If they didn’t, the Right wouldn’t be so concerned about gay marriage. But, because what we call things matters, the Right is working to block our civil right to marry.Â
We need marriage, and we need to call it marriage. Anything less is just that. Less.
