Democrat’s Same-Sex Marriage Platform Draft Language Confirmed — Here It Is!
The Democratic Party’s Drafting Committee has released the actual language the Platform Committee will soon vote on, before it is put before the convention delegates in Charlotte, North Carolina early next month. The language calls for support of same sex marriage equality, a repeal of DOMA, and passage of the Respect for Marriage Act.
Note the language calls DOMA, “the so-called Defense of Marriage Act.” Good for them.
You’ll remember including same-sex marrioage support in the draft was passed unanimously.
Of note, too, is the section ensuring religious freedom ‘without government interference.” Which, of course, every religious leader who opposes same-sex marriage will totally ignore.
If you have the chance, share this with everyone you can — the religious right is currently claiming Obama is waging a war on religion. Which, is plainly idiotic.
We support the right of all families to have equal respect, responsibilities, and protections under the law. We support marriage equality and support the movement to secure equal treatment under law for same-sex couples. We also support the freedom of churches and religious entities to decide how to administer marriage as a religious sacrament without government interference.
We oppose discriminatory federal and state constitutional amendments and other attempts to deny equal protection of the laws to committed same-sex couples who seek the same respect and responsibilities as other married couples. We support the full repeal of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act and the passage of the Respect for Marriage Act.
Congratulations to Buzzfeed for the exclusive.
