Amateur Hour: Romney, Fox, Drudge, RNC Team Up To Defend 47% Comments
Mitt Romney was a very welcome guest on Fox News late this afternoon to defend and explain the comments he made suggesting that 47% of Americans are dependent on government and like it that way. Neil Cavuto lobbed softballs to Romney, offering him questions that easily could have been prepared by the Romney campaign itself, were they that intelligent.Â
“Frankly, we have two very different views about America,” Romney said to Neil Cavuto. “The president’s view is one of a larger government.”
And then there’s this, which is oh so shlocky.
“There was a tape today where [Obama] said he likes redistribution,” Romney said on Fox.
Shamelessly, Romney repeatedly points to a video uploaded today to YouTube by someone who opened their YouTube account today, and has uploaded only that video. (Gee… Who could that be?) Â

The video, which RNC Chair Reince Priebus tweeted about, out of context, features Barack Obama in 1998, speaking at Loyola University, saying:
What that means then is that as we try to resuscitate this notion that we’re all in this thing together, leave nobody behind, we do have to be innovative and thinking what are the delivery systems that are actually effective and meet people where they live. And my suggestion, I guess would be that the trick, and this is one of the few areas where I think there are technical issues that have to be dealt with as opposed to just political issues. I think the trick is figuring out how do we structure government systems that pool resources and hence facilitate some redistribution because I actually believe in redistribution, at least at a certain level to make sure everybody’s got a shot.
This is what governments, since the dawn of time — or, at least, since the dawn of taxes — have always done.
The difference here is Romney, Drudge, and Priebus partially edit Obama’s comments to say, “I actually believe in redistribution,” leaving out the “because I actually believe in redistribution, at least at a certain level to make sure everybody’s got a shot.”
Whereas, no one had to partially edit Romney’s comments to make them sound like something else. Â

Of course, hot on Drudge:Â
Seriously. Amateur hour stuff. Watch the video.Â
