(No) Sex. Lies. And Videotape. Rick Santorum Has Two New Jobs

Published

on

Rick Santorum has not one but two new jobs. In the first, he’ll make in an hour or two what the average family of four makes in an entire year. In the second, he’ll give away millions. Both will come with complimentary lies, admonishments about sex, and plenty of videotape.

Santorum just announced he is forming a Super PAC, and going on the lecture circuit. Because why stop at finding one way to get people to be hateful bigots when you can do it twice and get paid big bucks to do it. But no one should breathe a sigh of relief. 2016 is around the corner and Santorum still has White House dreams.

“Organized as a non-profit 501(c)4 organization — meaning that it can raise and dispense political money, as well as lobby,” Real Clear Politics reports that “the new organization … is being funded by Santorum’s biggest donors, including Foster Friess, a wealthy conservative contributor who backed Santorum in 2012 — and who is slated to introduce him Friday morning at the Conservative Political Action Conference.”

What Patriot Voices will do, exactly, isn’t clear, but two sources close to Santorum said it will focus on the themes the former Pennsylvania senator stressed in his campaign: support for traditional families and the right-to-life movement; preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons; and restoring the nation’s manufacturing base.

The Huffington Posts notes that Santorum’s goal is to push Republican candidates to be more conservative:

“A lot of people have some basic anxiety about where America is going, and I tried to talk about those [issues] in the campaign,” Santorum said on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends.” “The adherence to the Constitution, and the importance of understanding where our rights come from and who we are as a people, and the culture and how that is being changed by this administration, whether it’s liberty or life or marriage.”

He said his new 501(c)(4), “Patriot Voices,” would advocate for those issues and encourage other Republicans to do the same. The goal of the organization is to attract one million members, according to a press release, and it will be able to accept unlimited contributions.

Meanwhile, Santorum may have been a one-track pony on the campaign trail, but now he’s got another trick: speaking.

Yes, for a mere $40,000 to $50,000 you too can hire Rick Santorum to tell your particular group the same lies he has been spinning for years, about gay people, homosexuality, same-sex marriage, the bible, Norwegian forced euthanization, and, well the list of lies goes on and on.

“That fee puts him in the range of MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, a cut below former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, but if Santorum makes speaking a full-time job, it’s the most lucrative, and least compromising, way for a politician to make substantial money,” Buzzfeed reports:

His topics include national security, the economy, and the social issues he’s long been identified with. “He will chronicle his battles for the dignity of all human life, his effort to protect traditional marriage, and his struggle to reverse Hollywood’s and the main stream media’s onslaught against virtue,” the agency promises.

That speech bears the perhaps unfortunate — though obviously unintended — title, “The Dawn of an American Renaissance,” sharing its name with a conservative publication widely viewed as racist.

No word yet on if that $50,000 comes with a sweater vest.

Fox News Chief Lachlan Murdoch to Be Deposed in $1.6 Billion Dominion Defamation Case

Published

on

Lachlan Murdoch, the executive chairman and CEO of Fox News‘ parent company, Fox Corporation, is set to be deposed next week in a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit. Dominion Voting Systems, which manufactures voting machines, claims the eldest Murdoch son and his father, Rupert Murdoch, have responsibility in Fox News promoting pro-Trump false election fraud claims it says has caused its company harm.

Murdoch is “scheduled to face questions from Dominion’s lawyers on Monday in Los Angeles, according to multiple reports, and will be the highest-ranking official at Fox to be deposed by Dominion,” The Hill reports.

Fox News propagandists Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson have already faced Dominion’s attorneys.

After a federal judge in June ruled the case could move forward, Law & Crime explained, “Dominion’s lawsuit contends that Rupert and his son Lachlan Murdoch personally caused Fox News to broadcast false claims about their role in the 2020 election, even though the Murdochs knew former President Donald Trump’s election fraud narrative was false.”

Rupert Murdoch reportedly spoke with Donald Trump just days after the 2020 presidential election to tell him he had lost.

Judge Eric M. Davis ruled there is “a reasonable inference that Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch either knew Dominion had not manipulated the election or at least recklessly disregarded the truth when they allegedly caused Fox News to propagate its claims about Dominion.”

“Dominion has successfully brought home actual malice to the individuals at Fox Corporation who it claims to be responsible for the broadcasts,” Judge Davis added, Law & Crime reported.

A federal judge has rejected Fox News’ First Amendment defense. The case is expected to be argued before a jury early next year.

82-Year-Old Black Woman Arrested and Handcuffed by Alabama Police Over $77 Unpaid Trash Bill

Published

on

Martha Menefield, an 82-year-old Black woman in Valley, Alabama, had police officers show up to her home on Sunday and arrest her for failing to pay a $77 trash bill, CBS42 reports.

Menefield told CBS42 that she thought the bill had already been paid, “but they said it hadn’t.”

“And the cuffs,” she said, her eyes swelling with tears. “They’re so heavy.”

When the officer told her not to cry, Menefield asked him, “How would you feel if they came and arrested your grandmama?”

“I’m just happy my grandkids weren’t here to see that,” Menefield said, her voice shaking. “That would have upset them. I was so ashamed. And it’s been bothering me.”

In a post on the city’s social media account, Valley’s police chief defended the arrest.

“City of Valley Code Enforcement Officers issued Ms. Menefield a citation in August of 2022 for non-payment for trash services for the months of June, July, and August,” Chief Mike Reynolds’ statement said. “Prior to issuing the citation, Code Enforcement tried to call Ms. Menefield several times and attempted to contact her in person at her residence. When contact could not be made, a door hanger was left at her residence. The hanger contained information on the reason for the visit and a name and contact phone number for her to call. The citation advised Ms. Menefield that she was to appear in court on September 7, 2022, in reference to this case. A warrant for Failure to Pay-Trash was issued when she did not appear in court.”

Since the arrest, Menefield has been thinking about the role of God in her life.

“I’ve been questioning God a little bit,” she said. “I guess cause I’ve been so upset. I had a daycare here for eight years, and I’ve been asking the Lord. I say ‘Why did this happen to me as much as I’ve done for people, Lord? I’ve paid my tithes every Sunday. I ushered at church. I was just questioning. Something’s just not right.”

‘Another Happy Jobs Day’: Economists Thrilled With ‘Amazing’ Report as Jobs Growth Beats Expectations, Wages Increase

Published

on

The Biden economy added a whopping 263,000 jobs last month, crushing expectations of 200,000, and wages are growing as well, leading one economist to declare “another happy jobs day.”

The U.S.Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) adds that unemployment remains at a near-historic low of 3.7% in November, “and has been in a narrow range of 3.5 percent to 3.7 percent since March.”

University of Michigan School of Economics Professor Justin Wolfers exclaimed, “It’s yet ANOTHER happy jobs day. Payrolls rose +263k, well above expectations.”

“This expansion just keeps on rolling on,” added Wolfers, a senior fellow at The Brookings Institution.

Wolfers also takes on those who have been falsely pushing “recession” talking points.

“BTW, remember all that recession talk? It was nonsense. Bollocks. Cow dung,” he tweets. “There never was a recession. And the economy sure doesn’t look like it’s in one now. Job growth at this rate is the economy singing: ‘This is a robust expansion.'”

And he also slams the doom and gloom forecasters.

Economist David Rothschild sums up where the Biden economy is compared to the rest of the world.

“Economy is far from perfect,” he writes, “but conditional on the worldwide pandemic and supply chain issues generated from pandemic: US economy has done *amazing* over last 2 years.”

In news alerts The New York Times reported hiring “continued to exceed expectations,” The Wall Street Journal called it “a sign of continued strength in the labor market,” and even Fox News reported it as “stronger-than-expected.” CNN referred to the jobs report as “robust” and “defying expectations.”

“America’s jobs engine kept churning in November, the Labor Department reported Friday, a show of continued demand for workers despite the Federal Reserve’s push to curb inflation by tamping down hiring, The Times reported. “The labor market has been surprisingly resilient in the face of successive interest rate increases by the Fed over the past year. Even sectors normally sensitive to borrowing costs, like construction and manufacturing, have been slow to back off the brisk pace of growth they posted coming out of the pandemic.”

The BLS also broke down unemployment numbers by demographics.

“Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rates for adult men (3.4 percent), adult women (3.3 percent), teenagers (11.3 percent), Whites (3.2 percent), Blacks (5.7 percent), Asians (2.7 percent), and Hispanics (3.9 percent) showed little or no change over the month.”
