8 Year Old’s Letter: Will My Moms Will Go To Jail If Gay Marriage Ban Passes?
An eight-year old boy wrote an open letter to all Minnesota residents asking them questions about his family’s future if the impending constitutional ban on gay marriage passes, like, “Since this is illegal can my moms get arrested?,” and, “Who makes these laws because they don’t make sense to me. For example, isn’t it love that makes a family?”
Carter Gustafson, who is 8 and 3/4 years old, writes:
Dear Minnesotans,
I’m writing this letter because I have two moms and I want to talk about the gay marriage vote. I’ve been asking my moms a lot of questions about the vote. Here are some of them:
1. Why does it matter if it’s a woman and a woman or a man and a woman? What’s the difference?
2. If this passes, can we still be a family?
3. Since this is illegal can my moms get arrested? This means a lot to me because I love my moms!
4. Who makes these laws because they don’t make sense to me. For example, isn’t it love that makes a family?
I hope one day my moms can get married. Please help by voting no!
Sincerely,
Carter Gustafson

Minnesotans will, in fact, go to the polls in November to decide whether or not to write discrimination directly into their constitution. There already is a state law banning same-sex marriage in Minnesota, but anti-gay groups are trying to ensure it never gets repealed.
The New Civil Rights Movement has shared many of the lies and false or truth-twisted statements of groups like Minnesota For Marriage, which, as we showed last week, are using paid National Organization For Marriage employees acting as just average folks, man-on-the-street “volunteers†and “supporters,†in photos.
Minnesota For Marriage in June sent supporters a fundraising an email stating the “Green Giant, Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Kix, and Trix have all declared war on Marriage,” because General Mills, one of Minnesota’s largest employers, opposes the ban on marriage equality.
