  • Watch: 'Religious Principles' Motivate Restaurant Patron To Tell Gay Man He's A 'F*cking F*ggot'

In this stunning video, a Fire Mountain restaurant patron calls a gay man a "fucking faggot," and threatens that he should be "put to death." He later says his "religious principles" motivated him.

Isiah David Tweedie says that he and his friends went to the Fire Mountain restaurant in Lansing Charter Township, Michigan Wednesday. Upon leaving with his friends, a man he says was also a patron came out and called him a "fucking faggot."

Tweedie filmed the incident with his camera phone and posted the video to his Facebook page

"I said, 'fucking faggot.' You want a picture? Take a picture," the man, who approaches Tweedie, says repeatedly.

"I'm an American, born in America," the unnamed man says. Tweedie replies, "I'm an American too, honey."

"You're a fucking faggot," the man again says. "I am a fucking faggot," Tweedie replies.

"God's law -- Leviticus, Leviticus -- you should be put to death," the man yells, pointing to Tweedie.

The video is just over a minute, but the sheer hate is immeasurable.

Local TV news station WILX News 10 spoke with the man who yelled the anti-gay slurs. They report the man "did say he reacted because of his religious principles."

"We came in here and spent 50 dollars on a meal, only to leave and be harassed," Tweedie writes on Facebook. He adds:

I'm angry with this man who works for SOETS HANDYMAN AND MAINTENANCE.. But I'm more angry with COLLIN REED, the "manager." No apology, no remorse.. Nothing. Is this acceptable?? Is this how we act?? I know my rights.. I could have cause a SCENE called other "faggots" and it could have REALLY been a scene.. This man spoke SO harshly in front of children, elderly etc.. This is UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!! What's going to be done now??#StopTheHate SHARE THIS VIDEO!! GET THIS OUT THERE!! THIS CAN NOT AND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!!!

Several local news stations apparently have already spoken to Tweedie, but his anger extends to the Fire Mountain corporate office.

After contacting them, Tweedie notes that posted a statement to their Facebook page, denying any involvement.

"There was a very unfortunate guest-to-guest encounter in one of our restaurant parking lots," the Fire Mountain Facebook post reads. "We have not and will not ever tolerate such behavior. None of our employees were involved in this issue and our Manager took every and all appropriate actions including calling the police."

The restaurant's Facebook page notes, "Ryan’s Buffet and Fire Mountain Grill provide high quality food at affordable prices in a family friendly atmosphere. Bring your entire family and enjoy our exceptional food and southern hospitality."

To be fair, the patron was not an employee of Fire Mountain. The restaurant claims the manager called the police, and they aren't responsible for the conduct of their patrons.

honestly, in this day and age, this is more comical than alarming, this is just too much of a caricature of insane right-wing homophobia that it’s almost impossible to take it seriously.

i mean yeah, it HAS to be taken seriously, because it’s VERY serious, and people like this get away with physically assaulting LGBT people every day in this country. but just, wow. this practically looks like fiction.

They name the victim and even spoke to the whack job. Why didn’t they post his name?

Wow— This little incident was like most of my eighth grade year of junior high school. I used to hear stuff like this all day. O:)

Kobe Bryant is a washed up pig. Die, Kobe, Die! Lakers Management are fucking liars. Read his motherfucking lips, liars. Bag that pig, turn him into sausage and feed him to the sows.

Then we aren’t responsible for those who choose to boycott that restaurant for allowing such behavior and not kicking the abuser to the curb.

Since he mentioned Leviticus, I wonder if he went back into the restaurant to finish his shrimp dinner. Another thing Leviticus is strongly against…

The manager should have apologized on behalf of the patron because keeping silent condones this idiotic behavior. The manager should have not allowed the individual to enter the premises again to continue his meal. Not the anf the people he was with should have been escorted out. And from what I hear the police were never called. In fact the manager said what do you want me to do? Call the police. Um yeah. This business and that’s man’s life is going down. Sorry to say it’s true.

The man is just upset because his boyfriend(LOL) just dumped his ass. And he can’t stand to see other gay men happy.

“To be fair, the patron was not an employee of Fire Mountain. The restaurant claims the manager called the police, and they aren’t responsible for the conduct of their patrons.” THANK YOU! Finally someone is realizing that this is not the restaurant’s/manager’s fault. This has always been the hateful man and the victim’s problem, its commenters and the victim’s side of the story that’s making everyone think it’s the manager’s fault. He should not have to apologize for someone’s actions, when they are not under his authority.

Further evidence that homophobia should be officially characterized as a form of mental illness.

WOW…Another fine moment in America, from a highly ignorant, disturbed person. I’m sorry, but where in the hell was this “person” raised? I was born and raised Roman Catholic, and it never seizes to amaze me how certain “believers” of God, pick and choose what they are going to believe in and interpret, all the while making royal jackasses of themselves, Such a crying shame.

      Religion is evil

First of all: Fire Mountain you had a responsibility to apologize to the customer, whether you did it or not because it happened in YOUR RESTAURANT. From a simple business perspective you’re going to lose customers now because your silence in the matter is a perceived condoning of the incident. The LEAST you could have done was sympathize, but, no, you did what all worthless turd companies do, a boiler plate statement in legalese and brush your hands of the sordid affair and hope that you don’t get blamed. Newsflash kids! You’re being blasted on the internet with bad PR in the age of the nanosecond feedback. The “duh” was implied.

Angela, if you told a parent the Bible is the literal “Word of God”, and they were reading it for the first time, and had just got up to the part in Leviticus and Deuteronomy commanding them to kill their child if it misbehaved, and their child misbehaved, what else could they do but obey the literal Word of God? Most in America believe God to be above the law and would protect them when the police came.

The sections I quoted commanded by Christ that the Law and the Prophets must be abided by until the end of time would further back up Leviticus and Deuteronomy.

All this is why I think religion is so dangerous. Not a word can be proven true or false except empirically, which is in the aegis of Science. These ancient texts like the Bible and the Qu’ran make men do evil things.

Derek when Jesus was talking about the commandments from the Old Testament he was referring to the Ten Commandments you should go back and reread the entire books of Mathew and John. You shouldn’t pick just one verse and roll with it that is how things get taken out of context because right before he spoke of the commandments he spoke that all things in the old were pretty much invalid since his arrival to earth except the ten commandments which is why we no longer sacrifice the lamb (there’s no need) which is why you can no longer have more than one wife, which is why you can cut your hair and shave etc. etc. etc.

If ever a video shows what people mean when they say “I’m going to pray for you”.

If my husband and I had been there, especially with our three kids, we would’ve whooped that redneck’s ass. I would much rather my kids see me stand up for a person’s right to be who they are and get bloody in the process, than see me cower just to keep out of it. Too many people keep out of it when they see things like this happen. I don’t want my kids to be cowards and maybe if people like him saw more people like us standing up, it wouldn’t come to blows, they would just shut up and go away.

I am a gay man myself. My motivation behind reporting this was merely to show that religion is “pick and choose”. Jews no longer obey most of these laws, so it’s disingenuous for those who disavow the Old Testament as “for the Jews”.

I apologize to Derek, if he was just quoting somone else. My previous comment was directed to the person who said “Jesus said the Old Testament must be obeyed – every word of it”.

    • commented 2014-08-06 21:59:35 -0400
Derek, if you believe “Jesus said the Old Testament must be obeyed – every word of it”, why do you cut your hair and cut your beard? The Old Testament is very clear about those actions being abominations! If your brother passes away, will you marry his widow? Did you intentionally skip those parts of the Bible, along with the many verses, which tell us we are not to judge others? How about following Jesus’ teachings of loving our brothers? I hate to break your bubble, but gays, lesbians, transgender and bisecual individuals are your brothers, whom you"ve been instructed, by Christ, to love.

Sadly there are more like him. He’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to people who are different.
What we must do is to highlight those who think that they’re the cat’s pajamas, highlight those who self righteously proclaim that they know what an invisible deity thinks and why he hasn’t made it plain that intolerance is unacceptable.

    • commented 2014-08-06 21:09:12 -0400
Sorry, but Jesus said the Old Testament must be obeyed – every word of it:

      1) “For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:18-19 RSV) Clearly the Old Testament is to be abided by until the end of human existence itself. None other then Jesus said so.
      2) All of the vicious Old Testament laws will be binding forever. “It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid.” (Luke 16:17 NAB)
      3) Jesus strongly approves of the law and the prophets. He hasn’t the slightest objection to the cruelties of the Old Testament. “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.” (Matthew 5:17 NAB)
      4) “Know this first of all, that there is no prophecy of scripture that is a matter of personal interpretation, for no prophecy ever came through human will; but rather human beings moved by the holy Spirit spoke under the influence of God.” (2 Peter 20-21 NAB)

I saw no such business as “SOETS HANDYMAN AND MAINTENANCE” in Lansing after a quick Google search. Can someone get the real name of his employer? My partner and I are looking to get some work done on a new house and I don’t want to accidentally hire them!

    • commented 2014-08-06 20:26:43 -0400
The latest manifestation of discrimination being sinfully redefined into “sincerely held religious beliefs.” What would Jesus say? BTW, Leviticus no longer applies; we are under grace, not the law. So the ranting, aggressive anti-gay “Christian” really needs to read his Bible.

    • commented 2014-08-06 20:12:49 -0400
Here’s the problem with the Book of Leviticus, and ANY form of so-called “Christianity” that tries to use it as a judgement against LGBT people.

“If You Follow The Israelite Law, Christ Has Become Useless To You” (Gal.5:3,4)

A Fundamentalist who claims that others must adhere to even one regulation stated in Mosaic Law is bound by the whole of Mosaic Law: “For I testify again to every man that is circumcised (a stipulation of one of the Mosaic laws) that he is a debtor to do the whole law” (Gal.5:3). Someone cannot just choose to adhere to one (or some) law and not adhere strictly to all the others, or this would literally demonstrate Pharisaical hypocrisy.

Leviticus, really? Let’s see what else lies in store:

LEVITICUS 11:6-8 Outlaws the playing of football (touching the skin of a dead pig).
LEVITICUS 11:9-12 Eating shellfish or pork strictly forbidden.
LEVITICUS 18:19 A married couple who have sexual intercourse during a woman’s period shall both be executed.
LEVITICUS 19:19 May not wear polyester cotton shirts (wearing garments of mixed fabrics forbidden)
LEVITICUS 20:9 “Anyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.”
LEVITICUS 20:18 No marriage shall be sanctioned in which the wedding ceremony shall occur during the women’s menstrual cycle.
LEVITICUS 21:17-21 “Speak to Aaron, saying, ‘No man of your offspring throughout their generations who has a defect shall approach to offer the food of his God. | ’For no one who has a defect shall approach: a blind man, or a lame man, or he who has a disfigured face, or any deformed limb, | or a man who has a broken foot or broken hand, | or a unchback or a dwarf, or one who has a defect in his eye or eczema or scabs or crushed testicles. | ’No man among the descendants of Aaron the priest who has a defect is to come near to offer the LORD’S offerings by fire; since he has a defect, he shall not come near to offer the food of his God.”
LEVITICUS 25:45 Says it’s OK for a foreigner in your country to sell you their child, and equally OK for you to buy them and treat them as chattel.
LEVITICUS 26:14-30 “Then if you walk contrary to me …you shall eat the flesh of your sons, and you shall eat the flesh of your daughters.”
