Post image for Sarah Palin, NOM, And Westboro Baptist: Right Wing Furious Over Duck Dynasty Dad’s Suspension

As news spread last night that A&E had suspended the “Duck Dynasty” dad, Phil Robertson, over his ugly and graphic anti-gay remarks, from Sarah Palin to the National Organization For Marriage to the Westboro Baptist Church, the entire right wing anti-gay hate machine exploded into action.

Vowing to boycott A&E (which, ironically would include and damage “Duck Dynasty”), screaming that Obama instead of Robertson should have been “fired,” and other illogical and ill-thought reactions, the right is clearly out-of-control furious.

Brian Brown, the president of the National Organization For Marriage (NOM), issued a strongly-worded, harsh, and hate-filled condemnation of the “gay lobby bullies,” including the “grossly misnamed Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and their Hollywood ally GLAAD” who “incite bigotry towards Christians.” NOM went more biblical than they possibly ever have, announcing, “homosexuality IS a sin in the bible, and virtually every other sacred text out there. Engaging in homosexual sex IS considered by God to be sinful according to the teachings of most religions. And sin is NOT logical. Sin is deceitful, harmful and degrading to the human soul.”

Of course, the greedy money-grabbers at NOM are using the Robertson suspension as a fund-raising opportunity.

It’s important that we get thousands of people to sign our petition to let A&E, Hollywood, GLAAD and the HRC know they aren’t going to get away with bullying Phil Robertson simply for expressing a true, Christian perspective on what the bible tells us is sinful.

There is also a Facebook fan page, “Boycott A&E Until Phil Robertson Is Put Back On Duck Dynasty,” which has over 340,000 “likes.”

And this, via Sarah Palin:

Rush Limbaugh wasted no time jumping into the fray, crying, “the long knives are out for Phil Robertson.”

Well, as you can well imagine, the left is hysterical, rather than just let it go. It’s the Duck Dynasty guy. They’re making a huge, huge deal out of it. It’s outrageous. But his views, I mean, folks, they line up almost exactly with the views of the new BFF of the libs: The Catholic Church.

And then, of course, Limbaugh tied the Duck Dynasty fracas to the recent ruling decriminalizing a portion of Utah’s polygamy laws.

Here are more reactions from the radical anti-gay religious right:

Phil spoke to Truth, Truth replied back in the form of his suspension. When one speaks truth, one needs to consider what his or her actions may unleash. This does not mean you should not speak truth. Especially when it means that much to you, but also be ready to face the consequences.

Oh look all of those grotesque, uneducated, uncivilized Nazis of a feather goose stepping together.

Look Phil, I like you and “Duck Dynasty.” It’s actually the only “reality show” I will even watch, but until you issue a full apology for a hateful statement that had nothing to do with your show, you can count on me not tuning in every Wednesday night going forward. I enjoy your program, I love guns and the outdoors – but one thing I cannot accept is homophobia.
And, what you said is vile, hatred and homophobic. It is NOT free speech when you sign a multimillion dollar contract to put your family in the limelight. You are profiting BIG time by your choice and we will vow to cut your show completely unless you apologize.

That same scripture has led to the death of thousands of adults and children in the fight for LGBT equality, and has open the door for the law to discriminate against people to live equal lives in what is supposed to be a "free democracy".
If he is going to use that as his defense for his opinion on gay sex, then he should take responsibility for those same words that led to the death of the same people he condemned.
And the WBC is defending him? That's definitely the LAST of the Duck Dynasty. NOM is 2 million dollars in debt, when will these people learn that hate doesn't pay?

Ah, Sarah Palin and the rabid radical religious right (say that 10 times real fast)….

Still labouring under the false impression that the Constitutional guarantee of freedom of expression also includes the right to be free from criticism of what they say.

Oh, well, if THAT group of stellar luminaries is all upset about this… A&E must have done a good thing!

Having read a number of discussion threads on this topic yesterday, it is distressing to see how many people do not understand what Freedom of Speech guarantees. No governmental agency is keeping Robertson from speaking his (bigoted) mind – but it doesn't guarantee there won't be consequences for that speech.

I hate the fact that these assholes just cherry-pick biblical verses to justify their hatred of what they can never understand. Being Gay is NOT a choice; it is written into the genetic code and that, dear People, is that. Since that is a scientific fact, it appears to me that it is these Haters that are Wrong and it they, not the homosexuals, who are not living the Word of God. In fact, with every vile and hate-filled word, they are damning themselves more and more…mocking the Lord God by saying that He has, somehow, Created these Good People in error. The very idea that the Bible, the supposedly inerrant word of God, juxtaposed against the fact that, if their beliefs are to be True, God made some sort of genetic mistake when he created homosexuals. the tow are not congruent. God cannot be inerrant AND mistake prone at the same time. So, I believe that the Bible, especially the Old Testament, should be taken not just with a grain of salt, but the whole shaker.

To Palin, Peterson, NOM and the WBC: YOU are the ones preaching Hate and Intolerance. YOU are the ones mocking God and His plan for us. YOU, through your deliberate cherry-picking of biblical verse to justify your Hate and Contempt for that which you lack the capacity to understand, are the ones whose souls are in danger. Jesus said Himself that the Greatest Commandment of all was to "Love Thy Neighbor." I see only Hate and Bigotry in your eyes, your words and your deeds. I do not see Love, Compassion and Empathy for anyone who is not like you.

This clip from the TV Show "West Wing" says EXACTLY what I want to say to all of you better than I could ever say it myself. I will LET the clip say it for me:

Funny; I'm a registered progressive/liberal and I haven't been excited at this "news" story. When an ignorant red-necked bigot behaves in pattern, I'm neither surprised nor agitated. Ho-hum. On to the next story.

Once again, social conservatives champion a cause — this time in the form of anti-LGBT diatribes by a spotlight-seeking hillbilly — that will place them firmly on the wrong side of history.

The First Amendment allows you to say almost anything. However, it does not protect you from criticism, ridicule or societal repercussions from the stupid things you may say!
