Rick Perry right about now is prepping for his totally-not-political trip to a gun manufacturing plant located just 19.3 miles by car from yesterday’s tragic Washington, D.C. Navy Yard shooting. Twelve Americans were shot to death by a mad gunman starting at 8:20 AM yesterday. Only a handful of those wounded survived. Perry’s Texans for Rick Perry political campaign claims to be footing the bill for the trip.

The Texas Republican governor will tour Maryland’s famous Beretta gun manufacturing headquarters, purportedly in another attempt to steal corporate businesses from states where labor costs and taxes are higher. But what he’s doing in reality is seeding the ground for his thinly-veiled 2016 presidential campaign, including seeding advertising in the local area in the days before he arrives. Basically, Governor Perry is starting his presidential ground campaign to become President Perry before he’s even declared.

“With guns back in the national spotlight after a mass shooting at Washington’s Navy Yard, Texas Gov. Rick Perry will tour Maryland’s largest gun manufacturer on Wednesday as part of his ongoing effort to lure businesses to his home state,” CNN just reported:

Beretta USA executives flirted with leaving Maryland earlier this year after Gov. Martin O’Malley began pushing a successful assault weapons ban in the state, and Perry, a fierce opponent of gun control, courted the company at the time.

But Beretta ultimately decided to keep its facility in Prince George’s County, where it has been manufacturing military and police firearms for more than three decades. Maryland’s gun law does not bar the company from manufacturing guns in the state.

As part of his brazen economic development effort, Perry has run an avalanche of pro-Texas ads in a number of states led by Democratic governors, including California, Missouri and New York.

In Maryland, Perry is currently running radio and television ads accusing O’Malley of stifling job growth with taxes.

So, with no chance of Perry poaching Beretta from Maryland, why waste taxpayer dollars? Democratic governor Martin O’Malley is rumored to be considering a 2016 bid for the White House himself. And Perry likes to be associated with guns.

“Gov. Rick Perry will travel to Maryland September 18 to highlight Texas’ commitment to keeping taxes low on hardworking families and businesses, allowing them to keep more of what they earn, and helping make Texas’ economy a national example for job creation,” a press release on Perry’s political website, Texans for Rick Perry, notes:

Ahead of the governor’s trip, a 60-second radio ad and 30-second TV ad begin running today in several markets. The ads showcase the opportunities and freedom available to families and businesses thanks to Texas’ smart fiscal policies.

The nearly $500,000 TV and radio ad buys and the governor’s trip are paid for by TexasOne – no state tax dollars will be used for his travel and accommodations, or for the ad buy.

Full text of the radio ad is below:

This is Texas Gov. Rick Perry. When you grow tired of Maryland taxes squeezing every dime out of your business, think Texas, where we’ve created more jobs than all the other states combined. Where you’ll find limited government, low taxes and a fair legal system.

That’s why Forbes Magazine says Texas is home to seven of the 10 top cities in America to do business.

Unfortunately, your governor has made Maryland the tax and fee state, where businesses and families are paying some of the highest taxes in America. Since taking office in 2007, he’s approved 40 new taxes and fees, projected to cost you $9.5 billion more through 2014.

That’s a job killer.

Those are awful words to be airing in the wake of yet another mass shooting murder. But listen to them with a grain of salt. About half of Rick Perry’s statements are not the truthhis Politifact scores prove it.

Perry is also the author of the book, Fed Up!: Our Fight to Save America from Washington.

I don't see how this is remotely offensive. I think whoever wrote this is looking for things to be offended by.
