Pat Robertson may actually have entered the 21st century — at least on one very important issue. While the octogenarian televangelist admits he doesn’t know much about transgender people, Robertson on Sunday said, “I think there are men who are in a woman’s body. It’s very rare, but it’s true. Or there are women in men’s bodies.”
He may not have gotten it exactly right, but you have to applaud his effort.
Robertson adds, “I don’t think there’s any sin associated with” transitioning from male to female or female to male. “I don’t condemn somebody for doing that.”
Robertson adds, “it’s not for you to decide or to judge” transgender people.
You have to give him credit here.
Countdown to the anti-gay hate groups denouncing Robertson in five, four, three…
“Given trans people experience high rates of discrimination and have no protections nationally or in 33 states, Robertson’s affirmation could have a profound positive fact among social conservatives,” Zack Ford at Think Progress notes, adding it’s “a refreshing change of pace.”
