  • Watch: Shkreli Smirks At Congress, Pleads Fifth, Gets Kicked Out, Tweets Congressmen Are 'Imbeciles'

'Pharma Bro' May Have Set Himself Up For Contempt Of Congress Charge

Martin Shkreli was subpoenaed to testify before Congress, and last month took to Twitter to suggest he might not show. But show he did Thursday morning, sitting on a panel of pharmaceutical executives and a member of the FDA, in a House hearing on drug price gouging.

Shkreli used his constitutional right to avoid self-incrimination in response to nearly every question, sans the pronunciation of his last name.

But it wasn't pleading the Fifth that was so offensive, it was his contempt of the lawmakers duly-elected by the American people, among them the august civil rights leader Rep. Elijah Cummings, that was so disgusting.

In fact, as Cummings was delivering his opening remarks, Shkreli was smirking, which elicited this response from the Democratic  ranking member: "It's not funny Mr. Shkreli, people are dying, and they are getting sicker and sicker."

Not only was Shkreli smug, he at times turned his head away from lawmakers addressing him directly, played with his pencil, and spoke with disdain to Congress.

Asked by Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) why he would not answer questions, Shkreli not only pleaded the Fifth, he offered this response:

"I intend to follow the advice of my counsel, not yours."

After making it clear he would answer no questions, Shkreli was instructed to leave and was escorted out of the chamber.

Almost immediately after being kicked out of the House hearing, Shkreli took to Twitter to continue the insult parade:

He is pleading the fifth amendment on every question because if he answer any question, he MAY be deemed to haves waived that privilege. he is actually doing it right.

The reason Shkreli is smirking and being so arrogant is because he knows dam well the pharmaceuticals own these congressman. Look how much Pharm $$$ goes to their election campaigns. That’s why he is laughing. These hearings are always dog and pony shows.

Contrary to Mr. Cumming’s posturing, Shkreli is in no position to change the system. Mr. Cummings and his colleagues are. Shkreli simply works within the legal regime that the politicians have created.

You know what he is a dick but he does have the right to plead the fifth and it seems to me their just trying to blame somebody for the way these pharmaceutical companies act, they’re all assholes

Aside from Rep. Cummings, he is right. They need to be flushed like the turds they are.

Can’t believe I am agreeing with Shkreli.

The people following and liking his tweets are just as vile. He’s inexcusable, and if you’re making excuses for him, you need your brain examined.

Maybe just maybe he is on to something. The majority of them are “imbeciles”. Of course he is a greedy spoiled idiot.

Karma is likely to kick his skinny little pink a$$ for a field goal. The boy is a sociopath, a worthless narcissist and a SLOW learner to boot. He’s like Marco “No-Show” Rubio on steroids.

a truly disgusting excuse for a human being. the fact he is allowed to exist and thrive and make money and not be ostracized from civil life and thrown in jail for his behavior is enough of an argument against our capitalist, greed-based present society.

Well in all honesty he did give Congress the respect they deserve. And he is correct about congressmen.

This is a lot like Lex Luthor calling the Joker crazy and thinking it’s an insult.
This fecal stain needs to disappear.
      Mysteriously.
      Suddenly.
      Quietly.
      Without a trace.
Except for a puddle of urine, one of his shoes, and maybe half an ear.

Good god, that BOY, because that is what he is, has zero respect for anyone or anything…..proven fact.
His attempt to appear aloof, and beyond the care we and many others show in relation, to what can only be seen as, his utter contempt of all things moral was staggering!
This manchild needs to be locked up where doing ones best to show fake socio/psychopathic traits, ends rather painfully.
It may not be legally correct, but it is morally acceptable…..unlike his pathetic attempt to make huge profits off the backs of the suffering cancer patients.

There are very, very few people in the world who have absolutely NO redeeming qualities. Shkreli is definitely one of those few!

Mr. Shkreli exercised his rights under our Constitution. I also agree that most of our Congress are imbeciles. If they had any balls, they would have had him arrested for price gouging long ago.
